  The most value for money tour of Oman- good transport, accommodations and food. Points for improvement- - Tour guide should be engaging and imparting lots of information regarding the sights, which I found lacking. There was no formal introduction even and most of the time, he was repeating some very basic information about the places unless asked further questions. He needs to have room numbers and some people's phone contacts to be better organised. - Although it was not a problem for me being young, a lot of the locations are not truly accessible for people with mobility issues eg Wadis and this should be mentioned beforehand as they are essentially cannot be explored by the elderly. - Nizwa fort should be included on the last day - longer time at the mosque, the wadis and Nizwa souk - restaurants need to be chosen to include vegetarian mains or this needs to be explained beforehand as I accidentally ate meat on the first night thinking it was the alternative vegetarian option, which it was not.   Great hotels Great transportation Great pretrip question answering by Richard Ramos OK buffet food Biggest issue was that our guide-though I personally liked him and he provided insight when asked-could have made this so much better. From the start: 1. When I arrived at the hotel, the front desk did not have my information on hand, and I had to wait 20 minutes to get checked in after 23 hours of travel. 2. I did not get the welcome kit as outlined in the trip itinerary. There was not no briefing for the trip as outlined on the itinerary. This would have been helpful. 3. The tour did not start at 8-8:30 as stated in the itinerary, and so I had to reach out to people with Grayline. Our guide did not show up until after 9AM. He said that they left a note with the front desk about starting later but I never received it. 4. I've taken Intrepid trips several times and I'm used to guides that brief you and give context on culture, religion, food-you name it. As well as an overview of each site, history, etc. We didn't get any of that. It was hard as we were with an Italian group, and their guide was constantly giving them information while we drove-and we had several hours of driving-to give context, history, etc. Our guide provided minimal information. 5. I resorted to using my Lonely Planet for each place we went to as we were not provided this information from our guide. This is a good quick visit to Oman, and hopefully your guide will provide an enriching experience, as we did not get it.Show more

  We were due to arrive in Oman a few days before the start of the Tour. Suresh, the local representative, was extremely helpful in arranging for our pick up from the airport when we arrived and our accommodation for these preceding days at the hotel where the tour was due to start. We were surprised that we were the only people on the tour, but it had turned out that the main tour at this time was for French speakers, Greyline kindly put on an English speaking tour just for us (at no extra cost). Fahad, our tour guide and driver, was very knowledgeable and great company on the trip. The sites we visited were varied and interesting. We would wholeheartedly recommend the Essentials tour to anyone visiting Oman.Show more
