Review of Thailand trip - Overall 4.5/5 Hotel – Montein Riverside Hotel – Bangkok – Overall score 3.75/5 • Facility – Older facility but well taken care of. 3.5/5 • Staff – Wonderful staff, very friendly and helpful. 5/5 • Food – Very good selection, though I wish they offered coffee or iced coffee to go. 4/5 • Room – Very clean and well maintained. Bathroom also clean and well appointed. 4/5 • Areas of improvement – None really. Hotel – Long Beach Hotel – Pattaya – 2/5 • Facility – Very dated, seemed stuck in the 1980’s. 2/5 • Staff – The staff, even though they were at least civil, didn’t seem terribly interested in giving good service, just doing their job at a minimum. 2/5 • Food – Good selection for breakfast, in fact the largest breakfast buffet on the trip. Quality was also good. 3.5/5 • Room – Not spotless to say the least. Sand in the bed upon arrival and we didn’t even go to the beach. Tile grout in shower was not clean, very substandard. Mold seen above shower, overall terrible. 1/5 • Areas of improvement – Staff needs to be more friendly, cleaning and maintenance need to be improved. I’d consider contracting with another hotel, this was really subpar except for the food. Hotel – Wyndham Royal Lee – Phuket • Facility – Newer of course as these are also condos. Nice to have on site laundry. The only thing that’s not great is the “front desk” is quite a walk and going off site is also a long walk. 4/5 • Staff – Very friendly and accommodating to requests 4/5 • Food – This breakfast buffet is very small but ok, good quality. 3.5/5 • Room – Excellent and in great condition. Hallways are not air conditioned but this seems to be an overall trend in Thailand. 4/5 • Areas of improvement – Nothing really glaring. There was a kitchenette and having dishes and pots/pans would have been nice but not really required. 4/5 Events/tours Asiatique River Cruise – Food was very good and good quality. Kind of short trip but overall a good chance to eat, drink and take photos. 4/5 Alcazar Cabaret – Unable to review, we were simply too tired to participate. Elephant Sanctuary – Wonderful time! 5/5 Bamboo and Phi Phi Island – Fantastic! A bit crowded but that’s not unexpected. 5/5 Phang Nga – James Bond Island – Also wonderful! I would have liked to stay on palm beach for longer but since the tide was going out we understand. 5/5 Where we ate a seafood lunch at the beach in Pattaya…one word, OUTSTANDING! 5+/5 Air Asia Flight from BKK to HKT – Using similar US budget carriers as a baseline, like Southwest and Frontier, this was a good airline. Very good cabin crew, no frills but since it’s a short flight we were pleased. Mr Ken and Nui were great! One thing that I should have guessed is that even though most of these tours were 1/2 day with the traffic they ended up being nearly an all day thing. Not anyones fault, just Thailand traffic.
