Written on March 31st, 2026What a great way to get a taste of Tasmania. Our tour guide, Wombat (Garrett), was fabulous. Just be forewarned - the bus is not made for comfort or seeing wh…Read moreUnder Down Under Tours commented on this review
Hi David, Thank you for this feedback. We have adopted a seat rotation guideline to ensure that guests all get to sit up front as well as in other locations out of fairness to all passengers. The style of vehicle, Toyota Coaster Deluxe, is listed on the tour radar website. It is a very common tour vehicle for groups this size (max 20). In saying that, we are sorry to learn that it did not meet your expectations. Thank you also for your feedback on the active nature of the tour. Moderate fitness and good mobility are essential. You are correct, most of the walks in the National Parks do not have hand rails, and although some are straight forward on flat paths, many on this itinerary have steps and uneven terrain and gravel tracks. It is always challenging meeting different guests needs and expectations and we work hard to do so. We will share with our guide your feedback on commentary and the walks. Thank you for this. Overall, we're glad you liked our tour and the special mention for the Penny Royal in Launceston - it is a unique and a special place. Kind Regards, Under Down Under

Who will I meet on tour?
Our tours are diverse in ages and nationalities. We are a great option for solo travellers, couples, and groups who are excited to explore Tasmania. Our age range is 8-80 years old.
What are the buses like, and is the maximum group size?
Our maximum group size is 24 guests plus the tour guide (except for the Discovery 6 and Ultimate 10 which have a maximum of 18 guests). Our tours are conducted in modern, comfortable air-conditioned buses such as Toyota Coasters or Mitsubishi Rosas.
What are the walks like and how fit do you need to be?
These active tours feature daily walks from easy to moderate difficulty. All are optional, but moderate fitness and good mobility help maximise the experience. i.e. Easy walk: Russell Falls (Mount Field National Park) – 1.4 km return (25 min), flat with no steps. Moderate walk: Dove Lake Circuit (Cradle Mountain National Park) – 6 km loop (2–3 hrs) with some steep hills, steps, and rough terrain, offering stunning views.
What to bring?
In general, bring clothing that suits the season, including warm clothes (it can get cold in the mountains), comfortable closed-toe walking shoes, toiletries, a towel, hat, sunscreen, waterproof jacket, swimsuit, and 1-2 litre refillable water bottle. To travel more sustainably, please bring a keep-cup (for coffees) and a reusable shopping bag.
Are meals included?
Some tours are self-catering. This means guests can purchase their own meals according to their preferences and budget. We provide regular opportunities to shop at supermarkets and to enjoy the local cafes and restaurants according to your meal preferences. Hostel guests can prepare their own meals should they prefer this option.
The Ultimate 10 and Discovery 6 tours include several meals as part of each tour.Do you pick up guests at the start of tour?
Yes. We pick up guests from selected locations in Hobart’s CBD. Please advise us of your pick-up location no later than 72 hours prior to your tour’s departure. You can view a list of our pick-up locations and times here.
Are Under Down Under Tours Accessible?
Travellers with accessibility requirements should discuss their needs and expectations with Under Down Under at the enquiry stage, prior to making a booking. Transparency and good communication from both parties is necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers and staff.
Can we depart Tasmania the day our tour finishes? Can we be dropped off at the Hobart airport?
We can arrange an airport drop off on the final day of your tour, however we strongly recommend booking a flight for 7.30pm or later. For all other guests you will be dropped into the city centre.
What accommodations can I choose?
Some of our tours offer both motel and hostel accommodations, others are motel-only.
- Motel Single, Double, or Twin: Private room with ensuite bathroom.
- Hostel Dormitory: Single-gender rooms (4–8 beds) with shared bathrooms. Private hostel rooms (Single, Double, or Twin) are also available with shared bathrooms.
