- Day 1
Edinburgh
You'll arrive in Edinburgh and have the whole day to yourself. The Royal Mile is perfect for wandering around and catching street performers, or head to Princes Street Gardens if you want somewhere quieter to sit. The National Museum of Scotland is worth checking out if museums appeal to you. There are optional experiences available too like touring the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, or taking a ghost tour if you're interested in the city's darker history.

- Day 2
Edinburgh to Glasgow
This morning you'll meet your guide for a city tour focusing on Edinburgh's main sights. Edinburgh Castle sitting on volcanic rock and the Royal Mile are the highlights here. After lunch, you'll travel to Glasgow, which takes about 2 hours. Once there, you'll get a tour of Scotland's largest city and see St. Mungo's Cathedral from the 15th century along with the historic university and other architectural points of interest.

- Day 3
Glasgow - Trossachs - Loch Lomond - Oban
You'll head through the Trossachs region with its green wooded hills until you reach Loch Lomond, Britain's largest inland loch. A boat trip on the loch gives you different angles on the Scottish landscape, including Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps. From there you'll continue toward Oban via Inveraray. Oban's known as the Gateway to the Isles and has a lively harbor worth exploring, plus McCaig's Tower overlooks some offshore islands.

Oban - Isle of Skye
You're heading south toward the Isle of Skye with photo stops planned in Glencoe Valley along the way. You'll pass Fort William and follow the Road to the Isles to Mallaig, where you'll catch a ferry to Skye, about 30 minutes across the water. After a short tour of the island, you'll settle into Portree, a harbor town with a nice atmosphere where you'll have time to walk around and get your bearings.

- Day 5
Isle of Skye - Inverewe Gardens - Strathpeffer
Leaving Skye, you'll head north and stop at Eilean Donan Castle. The drive takes you through Highland landscapes along Loch Maree to Inverewe Gardens on Loch Ewe, one of the world's most northerly botanical gardens with rare plants thriving in the location. This area is great for spotting Scotland's Big 5 wildlife: red squirrels, red deer, otters, seals, and golden eagles. You'll see the contrast between rugged highlands and clear coastal bays before reaching Strathpeffer for the night.

Strathpeffer - Dunrobin Castle - Dornoch - Loch Ness - Strathpeffer
You'll follow the North Coast 500 route north to Dunrobin Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Sutherland with gardens inspired by Versailles. Stop in Dornoch village to browse knitwear and local goods or grab fresh seafood. Afternoon brings a whisky distillery visit where you'll learn how it's made and do a tasting. On the drive back to Strathpeffer, you'll pass Inverness and travel along Loch Ness where locals say the monster might just be lurking.

- Day 7
Strathpeffer - Cairngorms National Park - Pitlochry - Edinburgh
You'll drive south through Cairngorms National Park, the UK's largest, with mountains, forests, and deep dark lakes. Wildlife here includes red deer, wildcats, golden eagles, and ospreys. Stop in Pitlochry village for free time to walk around and explore. Between May and September, you can watch salmon jumping upstream at the river pools. You'll head back to Edinburgh in the late afternoon, wrapping up the tour part of your trip.
