Self-guided options are great for taking your time in artistic villages like Valldemossa and Deià once the summer crowds have left. From what our travelers tell us, both companies handle Italian tours well but in different ways. Terranova really excels with their E-bike setup - the guides are solid professionals and the whole operation runs smoothly. The E-bikes make exploring much more manageable, especially on those longer routes through hilly areas. Explore has built up a good reputation for their hiking programs and most of our clients speak highly of their tour leaders who clearly know the regions, local culture and hidden spots really well. But there's a practical point worth mentioning: some travelers found the hiking more challenging than they expected. While the trip descriptions mention difficulty levels, it's better to be on the conservative side with your fitness estimates - the Italian sun and steep trails can make moderate hikes feel quite demanding. If you're trying to choose between them, think about your preferred activity level and pace.
