Waman Adventures did an excellent job organizing the tour. I removed one star for two reasons. First, during two days of the travel that included hiking to the altitude of over 14 and 16 thousand feet, the van did not return us to our hotel but dropped us at the city center, telling us to get a taxi. Our hotel was in the mountainous outskirts of the city, pretty far from the center, and we were unpleasantly surprised. Second, the trip was advertised "for all ages" and physical activities as "moderate." I am 65, and my friend is 53. We are both in pretty good physical shape. We can attest that the trip includes some extreme activities for our age group that require serious preparation. As a physician, I had to help a much younger woman out of decompensation on the slope, and personally observed people falling behind due to the inability to move at such high altitude. If you are lean, trained, and experienced at high altitudes, you will have a blast. If not, this trip may not be the best choice for you.

I had a good opinion of Geckos until they didn't follow up on feedback that one of the guides was making highly inappropriate comments. I assumed they'd be horrified and get in touch to find out what happened but it's been 2 months now. The guide made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to every woman in the group; about 10/12 on the tour were women. The most sexually explicit comments were directed at me, even after I told him it was inappropriate. It made the last few days of the tour very uncomfortable because you can't really avoid your guide. It was especially stressful at meals, trying to make sure I didn't end up beside him. When he realised I wasn't happy with him he sulked for days and kept asking why I wasn't his friend anymore. Not fun... Geckos' lack of response suggests to me that this must not be uncommon behaviour for guides. Also the fact that the guide was so blatant and targeted literally every woman suggests that he didn't expect the company to take complaints seriously.

I had an incredible experience on this Central America tour! The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, offering a wonderful mix of culture, history, nature, and adventure. Every destination had something unique to offer, and I came away with a much deeper appreciation for the region and its people. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the history, culture, and local traditions of each place we visited. The accommodations were comfortable, transportation was well organized, and everything ran smoothly throughout the journey. One thing I especially appreciated was the tour company’s commitment to supporting local communities. Visiting Smile Café in Nicaragua was a meaningful highlight, and I admire that the company includes and supports nonprofit initiatives like this, allowing travelers to contribute to positive social impact while experiencing the country in a more authentic way. Overall, this tour exceeded my expectations and created unforgettable memories. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the beauty, diversity, and rich culture of Central America.
