Overall tour and organisation was great, being English speaking we were worried there’d be little English, but great to have two guides - dedicated to each sub group. Staying in templehof rather than Berlin central meant it was harder to explore on your own.

My husband and I chose this tour specifically because it was by train and we could see so much. I have been on bus tours and didn’t want to spend days on a bus. We stayed in Frankfurt a couple days more at the beginning and we loved that. Old town Frankfurt is beautiful. We had one day in both Cologne and Bremen and felt it was enough. They are both beautiful though! Hamburg is a gorgeous port city. The Miniatur Wunderland is definitely worth the visit - it is incredible. And then the boat tour and hop on/hop off bus was also great to have. We felt that we saw so much in Hamburg in 2 days. Berlin has a guided tour, Potsdam and Sachsenhausen. All of these were great to see. We also went to Museum Island and saw a few of the museums too. I love WWII history so we got our fill of it here. Then Munich, I love Munich. We walked the Marienplatz and then there was the day trip to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein. We paid to go inside (which is extra) and we felt it was worth seeing. I did not know that Neuschwanstein was unfinished but what is there is extravagant. We also took in several beer halls including Hofbrauhaus. I think if we had another day in Munich, it would have been better (but that’s another reason to go back!). We were in constant contact with Javi, our guide, through WhatsApp. He would answer questions and offer suggestions throughout the trip. This is also how you receive your vouchers. It was the perfect balance of being on our own and being with a guided tour. There was some confusion over the transfers from the Frankfurt airport (our flight was late and the driver had left) and train stations (we didn’t know where to go), but Javi walked us through it as it happened - minor hiccups. Overall, it was an excellent trip and we would use Eurolatino tours again to help us see more of Europe by train.

Best tour companies for Germany tours
From what we're seeing in traveler feedback, Europamundo and Trafalgar come out pretty strong - their guides know their stuff and the trips run smoothly. But TourRadar's been hitting some bumps lately with their support team. One of their customers had a real hassle sorting out hotel bookings and getting money back, which points to some gaps in their customer service and communication. Eurohike's got good bones in their cycling tours, but their route directions could use some work - at least that's what one of their cyclists mentioned after needing clearer guidance along the way. When it comes to Oktoberfest, Stoke Travel's managed to find that sweet spot between keeping costs down and delivering a good time. They've built up quite a following among younger travelers, backpackers and budget-conscious festival goers looking for a proper Munich experience. It's worth noting that while these companies all handle European travel, they're really targeting different kinds of travelers. Europamundo and Trafalgar tend to draw folks who want everything planned out nicely, while Stoke Travel catches more of the spontaneous, party-ready crowd. Each has its place, but it's important to match the company with what you're actually looking for in a trip.
Best places to start your Germany tour
Munich leads the pack as our most popular jumping-off point for German trips, with 19 recent tours starting in Bavaria's capital. Frankfurt comes in next with 15 departures, followed by Berlin, Trier and also Neustadt. Looking at booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your plans about 96 days ahead - that's roughly three months - to get your preferred dates. This early planning really matters for festival tours and summer bike trips when spots fill up fast. Our travelers love how Munich blends old Bavarian traditions with modern city life, and many point out how easy it is to use the city's transit system for day trips to nearby castles like Neuschwanstein. For a genuine local experience, many suggest starting your day at a traditional beer garden, where you can join locals for a hearty Bavarian breakfast and some good conversation.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Germany really comes into its own, especially during holiday season. The Rhine river cruises connecting Düsseldorf and Cologne take you right to those classic Christmas markets in old medieval spots like Rüdesheim and Mainz. Our guests tell us they love how the tours mix guided walks through historic areas with enough free time to explore the market stalls at their own pace. When you take the Christmas Markets route from Berlin through Leipzig and Dresden, you'll get both city discoveries and seasonal traditions - there's fresh Christstollen cake with hot Glühwein while learning what locals have been doing here for centuries. The Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin and Dresden's Frauenkirke look particularly special all lit up for winter. We've made sure the winter routes include plenty of indoor stops and warm breaks at local restaurants and cafes.

Spring opens Germany up nicely - April and May bring just the right temperatures for exploring. Our multi-city tours from Berlin make good use of the clear spring days; you can see forever from the TV Tower and the Tiergarten's gardens are starting to bloom. The Rhine and Moselle valley routes work really well this time of year, with the vineyard terraces turning green and river cruises back in full swing. You'll find the castles like Neuschwanstein and Heidelberg less crowded, plus they look great against the spring mountain scenery. It's when beer garden culture kicks off too - in Munich you'll find yourself sharing benches with locals and trying Bavarian specialties in the fresh air.

Summer lets you experience everything Germany has to offer, from cities right through to countryside. Our main route covers 24 different places, showing you how each region makes the most of warm weather - whether you're swimming in Munich's English Garden, taking a boat through the Danube Gorge or walking the Black Forest paths. The long summer days mean more time to explore medieval towns like Rothenburg and Quedlinburg, which our travelers really appreciate. Hamburg's harbor is busy with boat tours and Berlin's Museum Island stays open into the evening. The Brothers Grimm route through central Germany really comes alive in summer - castle gardens are in full bloom and you can walk the forest paths between fairy tale towns.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
The Christmas Markets Rhine cruise sets out from Düsseldorf when autumn's cool air settles in, connecting medieval towns like Rüdesheim, Mainz and also Cologne. Our comprehensive 24-destination route reveals its charm as seasonal changes sweep through - you'll appreciate Munich's beer halls during harvest celebrations, while Dresden's baroque architecture glows against the autumn leaves. Our travelers tell us how the mild temperatures make exploring cities more pleasant, whether discovering Berlin's Museum Island or exploring the lanes of Frankfurt's historic center. The Rhine and Moselle valleys truly come alive this season, as vineyard-covered hills shift to rich autumn shades and local harvest festivals add cultural depth to your travels. For those drawn to premium experiences, the 12-day tours include special moments like castle dining in 13th-century halls and taking in Berlin's panoramic views from the TV Tower, made even better by autumn's crisp, clear skies.

What can I experience culture-wise when I visit Germany?
You'll love hanging out in Bavaria's traditional Biergartens they're such a fun way to dive into German beer culture. Winter's really special here with Christmas markets popping up all over - the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg is probably the most famous one and it's absolutely magical. If you're into wine the Rhine River region is fantastic you can visit places like Weingut Fitz Ritter and really get to know German wines.
Where can I find natural areas to explore outside the cities?
The Black Forest is absolutely stunning with all these hiking trails winding through mountains and cute villages you can get there pretty easily by train or car. If you're up for some serious natural beauty the Bavarian Alps are incredible with these massive peaks and beautiful lakes Deutsche Bahn trains and local buses can get you there no problem. The Rhine Valley's another must-see it's actually UNESCO listed and you can explore it by taking a river cruise or driving along the Autobahn.
What are some different ways to explore Germany that most tourists might miss?
The Romantic Road's really special it takes you through these picture-perfect towns like Rothenburg ob der Tauber and past amazing castles people love it because it feels like stepping back in time. Then there's the German Fairy Tale Route which follows the Brothers Grimm stories through these magical forests and medieval places like Trendelburg and Hamelin it's got this wonderful whimsical feel that's really unique.
Which places in Germany are worth visiting that tourists often overlook?
You should definitely check out Quedlinburg it's got UNESCO status and these amazing half-timbered houses that show off Germany's architectural history really beautifully. There's also this fascinating village called Mödlareuth they actually call it "Little Berlin" because it was divided just like Berlin was there's still a piece of the Wall there and it tells such an interesting Cold War story.
What local foods should I try while I'm there?
In Nuremberg you've got to try the Nürnberger Rostbratwurst these small grilled sausages that come with sauerkraut they're absolutely delicious. When you're in Rothenburg ob der Tauber grab some Schneeballen they're these amazing fried dough balls covered in powdered sugar. And if you're in Frankfurt definitely try some Apfelwein it's this traditional apple wine that locals love to drink in the local taverns it's really unique to the area.
