i guess Tourradar acts a travel agent for many operators. This does lead to a slight disjointing of the booking experience, but they did pick some good tours to promote. As to the trip itself, put together by local Madeira tour operator MB Travel, and tied together by Headwater Travel UK. 'Marvels of Madeira' gave a good cross section of the walking routes on the Island. Pick ups and taxis were all smoothly present when needed. The Hotel stays were well chosen to give a great, peaceful and comfortable stays, if rather grander than needed. Being set on Half board meant no worries about extra spends - only the bar bill to surmount. As this was a self guided tour, the initial briefing was important and well conducted. My only niggles were the ancillary services. Tourradars travel insurance deals were not flexible enough to take on a peronally arranged extension to my stay, and the flight agency (Kiwi.com) had a hefty booking mark up. Otherwise, a great Walking holiday. Philip
Marvels of Madeira WalkWhat a wonderful tour! Our guide (Catarina) was amazing! Such knowledge of Portuguese and art history! Our driver (Jonathan) navigated even the tightest streets with care and ease. With all the beautiful 4 star hotels, wonderful sights, restaurants, and shopping - the best part of the trip were our small group companions. We have vowed to stay connected and travel again with Overland Tours. Obrigabo!!
The Portugal Explorer Small Group TourMy friend and I booked this trip separately, no cross references or anything. Yet hotels, transfers, tours were always under one name for both of us. It was ok as we were indeed traveling together, but would have been questionable and not necessarily safe for a woman traveling alone. The hotel in Porto was nice, but definitely not a 4 star hotel. The breakfast was great. Instructions on how to get to tour meeting points would have been very helpful. The Porto tours were both wine tasting, which we knew, but did not expect both to be Port wineries. It would have been nice to try local wines (not Port wines). The tour guides Daniela and Bruno were awesome! Super informative and personal. Upon getting on the train to get from Porto to Lisbon, we were told that our fare had been cancelled and we need to give up our seats. The train was full and no more seats were available. As we had transfer arrangements from the Lisbon train station to the hotel, we needed to be on this train. We were able to convince the conductor to allow us to buy two tickets and sit in the food bar for the 3 hour ride. We were able to notify TourRadar of this mix-up and they were quick to reimburse us for the tickets we had to buy. The hotel in Lisbon was great, very centrally located. Overall a great trip, but absolutely need have each aspect of these trips booked in the respective paying customer's name! Would I book again with TourRadar, yes, but would stress the importance of EVERTHING being in MY name.
