7 Day - Iceland Ring Road & Snæfellsnes Peninsula Small-Group Tour - B

This tour was wonderful. Iceland has such raw and natural beauty. Our tour guide, Ellert, was informative and he made the tour magical. We walked on glaciers and between tectonic plates. We saw black beaches with ice that sparkled like diamonds. We experienced waterfalls that we could walk behind. There were volcanoes, geysers, Icelandic horses, and lava fields. The Blue Lagoon was worth the visit. Reykjavik was beautiful and walkable. We were there for the Festival of Lights and the city was lit up! We met wonderful people on our tour. I highly recommend this tour company.

Best tour companies for Iceland tours
Looking at these three major Iceland tour companies, each has their own strengths but also some things to watch out for. Arctic Adventures gets consistently good feedback for their guides - people often mention Jonas, Frimann and AEvar Omarsson by name. These guides seem to handle tough weather really well and find ways to make tours work even when conditions aren't perfect. BusTravel Iceland runs a solid operation with comfortable coaches and professional guides who know their stuff. Their tours generally run smoothly, but there's a bit of frustration when it comes to Northern Lights tours - specifically how they handle rescheduling when the lights don't show up. Troll Expeditions, which you'll find on TourRadar, has built quite a reputation for adapting tours based on Iceland's famously changeable weather. Their guides Johann Kari, Gylfi and also Davið get mentioned a lot in traveler feedback for really knowing how to show off Iceland's best spots. One thing to note about Arctic Adventures - while their actual tours are great, they could improve their communication before tours start, and some travelers weren't too happy with their refund policies. It's worth reading the fine print there before booking. What makes these companies stand out is how their guides handle Iceland's unpredictable conditions. They know when to adjust routes, find alternate viewing spots and make smart calls about weather - that's really what you need in a place like Iceland where conditions can change quickly.
Best places to start your Iceland tour
Most people join our Iceland trips starting in Reykjavik, with 60 tours beginning there and another 37 departing from Keflavik near the international airport. We also run some specialized tours from Thingvellir National Park and Egilsstadir in the east. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your dates about 4 months (125 days) ahead since Iceland tours fill up fast - especially in peak season when popular dates can go even earlier. Our travelers tell us summer tours let you explore every corner of the country, while winter brings special chances to check out ice caves and watch for the Northern Lights. Small groups mean you get quality time with local guides who know all the cultural bits and hidden spots. For good deals and fewer crowds, think about May or September when the weather's still nice but the peak crowds haven't arrived or have already left.

Best time to visit Iceland
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Iceland's winter tours really shine when combining Northern Lights with ice cave visits. The Ring Road circuits adapt well to winter conditions, and we've picked hotels specifically for good aurora viewing - many even offer wake-up calls when the lights appear. Our 6-7 day tours cover the Golden Circle's steaming geysers and South Coast landmarks, plus you can go dog sledding, ride snowmobiles on Langjökull glacier and explore the natural ice caves under Mýrdalsjökull. For shorter trips, our 3-4 day winter packages focus on key spots with guides who know the quiet times at Gullfoss, Geysir and also Þingvellir.

- Spring 2026
Spring brings more daylight and warmer days, with chances to see the Northern Lights lasting through early April. The 7-8 day self-drive tours let travelers set their own pace - perfect for photographing ice-free waterfalls or watching birds return to Reynisfjara's cliffs. Our small group tours in spring include special stops like Borgarfjörður's hot springs and local farms where you'll meet newborn lambs. The Ring Road is particularly nice in spring; the roads are clear but summer crowds haven't arrived, so you get peaceful time at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and also Lake Mývatn.

- Summer 2026
Summer's endless daylight opens up Iceland's wilderness completely. The Laugavegur Trek shows you everything from rainbow-colored mountains to black sand deserts. Our 8-10 day around-Iceland tours use the long days well, adding stops at Borgarfjörður Eystri for puffins and Stuðlagil Canyon's basalt columns. Many clients mix whale watching in the northern fjords with glacier walks on Vatnajökull. The extended daylight helps our guides time things just right - getting to popular waterfalls early morning or late evening when crowds thin and also when light's perfect for photos.

- July 2026 221 tours
- August 2026 popular 228 tours
- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall paints Iceland in autumn colors and brings more Northern Lights chances as nights get longer. Our 6-8 day Ring Road tours mix the main sites with seasonal treats like spotting wild reindeer in the East Fjords or gathering berries on the Troll Peninsula. You can still hike and enjoy outdoor activities while dealing with fewer tourists at major spots. The photography gets really good in fall - that low sun creates perfect conditions at Kirkjufell mountain and Reynisfjara's black beaches. Many travelers pick fall tours specifically to see both the classic sites and Northern Lights without dealing with deep winter weather and also conditions.
