We have seen wonderful sights and the tour guides, Abdou and Ashraf, were absolutely great. They have rich knowledge of ancient as well as contemporary Egypt and created a wonderful atmosphere. They also responded really constructively to special requests and were simply a joy to be with. On the whole, the tour was well organized. The hotel in Cairo and the cruise ship were great. The food was excellent. The tour representative in Cairo was much too pushy in trying to sell optional extras. Also, we had varied the tour a bit and while on our additional days in Hurghada, communication became more difficult - partly, I think, because internet access in the hotel most of the time did not work. We would also have preferred some more humane times for internal flights - which tended to leave or arrive very, very late or early, leaving us exhausted for the entire next day. Overall, though, this was a great tour and I would recommend it strongly.

This was such a great tour. There is a lot to cram into the itinerary for a week so the early starts can get pretty punishing. But it paid off because our guides were able to get us into the sites before a lot of the larger groups arrived. Our guide in Cairo, Sarah, was super friendly and knowledgeable, and gave us a lot of information about modern Cairo as well as the ancient sites. On the cruise, Mansour accompanied us and was equally great both to talk to and in terms of taking care of us and of course his knowledge of the sites. We didn't do any of the extra tours as we felt we wanted to enjoy Aswan and Luxor and the experience of cruising the Nile - as well as grabbing a few much-needed lie-ins. The boat we were on, the Chateau Lafayette, was great and the food and staff were fantastic. Overall, I highly recommend this tour for those with only a week to visit. Ideally, you'd probably come for slightly longer and take things at a slower pace.

How much should I set aside for entrance fees and tips?
Tipping (or baksheesh) is really important in Egypt so you'll want to budget generously for that. Most temples cost between 100-200 Egyptian Pounds to enter though some special sites like King Tut's tomb are a bit more at 250 EGP. You'll need small change for things like restrooms and various services throughout your trip. Our travelers usually recommend having about 100 EGP per day just for tips and keeping smaller bills handy makes everything easier.
