What our customers ask about Canadian Rockies Family Tours & Vacation Packages
What are the best family-friendly activities available in the Canadian Rockies?
The Canadian Rockies blend adventure and accessibility for families through a range of activities. Children can experience the thrill of riding Ice Explorer vehicles on Athabasca Glacier during the Columbia Icefield Adventure or take in mountain views from Banff's gondola rides. The gentle Athabasca River float trips provide a peaceful introduction to water activities. Families visiting Banff National Park often spend time walking the accessible paths of Johnston Canyon while keeping an eye out for local wildlife like elk and bighorn sheep. Lake Louise offers summer canoeing opportunities for older children. A TourRadar traveler noted "The scenery was stunning and there were activities for everyone no matter their age or ability." The Banff Aspen Lodge serves as a convenient base with easy access to local activities.
What type of accommodation is available for families in the Canadian Rockies?
The region's accommodations cater well to families with options like the centrally located Banff Aspen Lodge and Jasper's Whistlers Inn. These properties offer family-sized rooms and convenient amenities including indoor pools and hot tubs. Their locations put families within walking distance of dining and shopping areas. According to one TourRadar traveler: "The hotels provided were excellent and the breakfast every morning was so good and substantial."
What is the best time of year for families to visit the Canadian Rockies?
The summer months from June through August provide optimal conditions for family visits with comfortable temperatures and extended daylight hours. This peak season allows full access to outdoor activities from hiking to canoeing and wildlife viewing. Families looking for quieter periods might consider May or September when crowds thin out but temperatures remain pleasant. One TourRadar reviewer shared: "We visited in July and it was perfect - warm enough for outdoor activities but not too hot and all attractions were open." Note that premier properties like the Fairmont Banff Springs fill quickly during summer months.
How challenging are the hiking trails for families with young children?
The trail system accommodates various skill levels with several family-friendly options. Johnston Canyon's paved pathways provide stable footing for all ages while the Lake Louise lakeshore path welcomes strollers.
