Sicily Tours & Trips
See the Norman Cathedral in Monreale, its golden mosaics shimmering in the soft light of candles. Check out Cefalù, a medieval town cradled between the sea and the mountains. Wander through the Valley of the Temples, where Greek ruins speak of a time when Sicily was at its zenith. Don’t pass up the opportunity to see Marsala’s old wine cellars, where fortified wines age in oak barrels.

The tour itself was great along with all hotels and tour guides. The bus and bus driver however were not in the least. Bus was not something I would have expected compared to the rest of the tour. Besides being dirty, a bit shabby(seats looked filthy whether due to dirt or velvet rubbing off). They looked like they had motor oil on them. But the worst part was the bus driver who constantly SMOKED on the bus. The lingering smell was terrible. No amount of air fresheners could cover it up. You couldn’t even exit the bus without going through his cigarette smoke since he lit up immediately after the bus stopped and he chose to smoke in the door area. I think your CEO should take a ride on that bus to see for himself/herself to actually see what we had to ride in. His driving skills were fine, maybe a little too fast at times, but his lack of regard for the passengers leaves little to be desired.

Best places to start your Sicily tour
Most of our Sicily tours kick off from either Palermo or Catania, with both cities splitting the starts pretty evenly. There are some tours starting from Syracuse, Rome and also Taormina, but they're not as common. Looking at our booking data, you'll want to lock in your dates about 4.5 months ahead to get exactly what you're after. Our travelers tell us that 7-10 days feels right to really get to know Sicily - enough time to visit those UNESCO sites and dig into the food culture. Having a local guide makes a real difference; they'll take you to family farms and show you architectural gems you won't find in regular tourist guides. Getting around is straightforward with both private transfers and public transport available, though many of our guests prefer letting a local guide handle the travel details so they can focus on enjoying themselves.

Best time to visit Sicily
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter tours in Sicily give you something special, as our travelers regularly tell us. Small groups head out from Taormina for food and wine discoveries, joining local chefs to explore morning markets before learning the art of pasta and arancini making. The winter calendar features intimate tastings at family wineries on Etna's slopes, where volcanic soils shape the character of native grape varieties. Cultural routes combine Syracuse's Greek ruins with relaxed visits to baroque towns like Noto and leave your afternoons open to explore. Mount Etna shows a different side in winter - our guided walks at 1,900 meters take you through birch forests and past side craters with fewer tourists than summer brings. Culture-focused travelers often choose tours from Palermo, exploring lively morning markets, finding architectural treasures and joining cooking sessions in local homes. The 7-10 day trips work particularly well, giving proper time to take in places like the Valley of Temples, baroque Ragusa and also Modica's chocolate workshops. Don't miss watching Stromboli's natural evening fireworks from the Aeolian Islands - it's an activity our winter visitors consistently rate as a top experience.

- Spring 2026
Spring in Sicily is when everything comes together perfectly and we've designed our tours to make the most of the mild weather. Our small food and wine tours - never more than 8 people - take you through Taormina's markets with local chefs before you learn the real secrets of pasta and arancini making. The cultural routes blend Syracuse's Greek ruins with laid-back visits to family wineries tucked into Etna's hillsides. Our guests tell us they love how these spring tours mix guided walks in Baroque towns like Noto with enough free time to wander and explore. Palermo's morning markets are especially good now - you'll spot the season's first figs and local cheeses making their appearance.

- Summer 2026
Summer needs smart planning to deal with Sicily's heat, so our most effective tours start early and stick close to the coast when possible. One of our best routes combines cooling off at Mondello beach with visits to Cefalù's Norman cathedral and Taormina's Greek theater. The Aeolian Island multi-day trips are a big hit - our groups swim at Lipari's white beaches and watch the sun go down over Stromboli. Our travelers really appreciate having free afternoons to relax by the hotel pool between activities. Food tours move to the cooler evenings - perfect timing for trying Palermo's street food markets and enjoying gelato in Syracuse's Ortigia neighborhood.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Sicily Activities has built a solid reputation for their deep cultural immersion tours - our travelers consistently mention how their guides share rich local knowledge while keeping the logistics smooth. The food and wine experiences are genuinely local, not touristy, which makes a real difference. G Adventures does well with their small group approach in Sicily. Their southern route explores less-visited corners while the northern itinerary takes you through the volcanic landscapes and island hopping. What works particularly well is how they balance structured activities with free time, so you're not locked into a rigid schedule. Soleto Travel covers the main Sicily highlights and gets the job done, but we've had mixed feedback from TourRadar customers about where they stay - some accommodations are excellent while others need improvement. The group sizes also tend to vary more than advertised, which can affect the overall experience and pace of the tour. If you're choosing between these options and want something really focused on Sicilian culture, Sicily Activities is your best bet. For a mix of guided experiences and independent exploration with a reliable group size, G Adventures delivers consistently good results. Soleto works if you want to see the major sites, just be prepared for some variation in the details.
