All I can say is WOW!! Totally exceeded by expectations. The pace was excellent and Lovisa Birgitsdottier was the most amazing guide. She was professional, friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Iceland. Our driver, Gunnar was friendly and hard working. What a great team! The sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures will live on forever in our memories. It was so heartwarming to see her excitement at seeing the Northern Lights with us, even though I know she has had many such experiences.

What our customers ask about Iceland Guided Tours & Trips
What are the main benefits of taking a fully guided tour in Iceland?
A fully guided tour in Iceland takes care of the complex logistics while providing expert local knowledge and safety across the country's diverse terrain. Guides like Thomas who receives consistent praise from TourRadar travelers ensures groups get sufficient time at key sites from the Golden Circle to remote glaciers. Tours typically include stays at well-located hotels such as Fosshotel Baron in Reykjavik while handling all transportation between major attractions like Gullfoss waterfall Geysir hot springs and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Local guides share detailed context about Iceland's unique geology cultural heritage and historical significance at each stop.
How does the seasonal timing affect fully guided tours in Iceland?
Each season in Iceland presents distinct travel experiences. Summer tours from June to August take advantage of endless daylight to explore highland regions like Landmannalaugar. Winter trips between November and March focus on northern lights viewing and visiting ice caves at Vatnajökull. Summer temperatures average 11°C (52°F) making it comfortable to visit waterfalls like Skógafoss while winter hovers around -2°C (28°F) transforming places like Þingvellir National Park into snow-covered wonderlands. Guides adapt the daily schedule based on weather conditions and seasonal daylight.
What kind of accommodations can I expect on a fully guided Iceland tour?
Most guided tours use comfortable 3-star hotels with private bathrooms across Iceland. Central Reykjavik accommodations often include properties like Fosshotel Baron while South Coast stays might be at Hotel Skaftafell near Vatnajökull glacier. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The hotels were wonderful and the breakfasts were delicious." Standard amenities include breakfast WiFi and convenient locations near attractions. Some remote destinations like Höfn or Vík feature quality guesthouses that provide a more local experience.
What should I pack for a fully guided tour in Iceland?
Essential gear for Iceland's changeable weather includes waterproof hiking boots thermal layers waterproof outerwear warm accessories and swimwear for geothermal pools like the Blue Lagoon. Travelers emphasize the importance of quality rain gear when visiting exposed sites like Skógafoss waterfall or Reynisfjara beach. For glacier excursions at locations like Sólheimajökull guides provide technical equipment. Hotels supply towels and bedding so focus on packing versatile clothing suitable for temperatures between 6-12°C (44-53°F) in summer.
How much free time is typically available during guided tours in Iceland?
Guided tours balance structured activities with independent exploration time particularly in cities like Reykjavik and Akureyri. TourRadar traveler feedback notes: "Our guide Linas gave us perfect balance of guided activities and free time to explore on our own." Major stops like Þingvellir National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon usually allow 1-2 hours of self-guided exploration. Evening free time lets travelers choose local restaurants or join optional activities such as northern lights tours.
What is the typical group size on fully guided tours in Iceland?
Tours generally operate with 12-16 participants creating an intimate travel experience. One TourRadar traveler noted: "Our small group of nine people was excellent. Our guide Thomas went out of his way to make sure each and every one of us saw everything we wanted." These smaller numbers allow for efficient movement between sites like Gullfoss waterfall and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon while ensuring personal attention from guides and comfortable travel in modern minibuses.
What meals are typically included in fully guided Iceland tours?
Tour packages regularly include daily breakfast at accommodations like Fosshotel Baron and Hotel Skaftafell. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The meals included were well arranged and gave us a taste of authentic Icelandic cuisine." While lunches are usually independent guides direct travelers to reliable dining spots from casual cafes to restaurants. Local specialties include fresh seafood in Höfn and traditional lamb dishes in rural regions offering authentic dining experiences throughout the journey.
