Best tour companies for North America tours
Both companies get consistently positive feedback from travelers who've actually taken their tours. Intrepid's Canadian Rockies trips stand out thanks to group leaders like Evan, who our customers say really knows his stuff and makes every day fun and interesting. He's especially good at handling all the little details that make a big difference when you're exploring mountain trails, glacial lakes and wildlife areas. Over in the American Southwest, Bindlestiff Tours has built quite a reputation with guides like Khriss and Rachel leading the way. Our travelers mention how well-organized everything is, from the comfortable camping setups to excellent meals in the outdoors. Khriss in particular gets mentioned a lot - customers love how he shares in-depth knowledge about the geology, history and nature while making sure everyone's having a good time, comfortable and engaged throughout the journey. The personal touch from these guides really shows in the reviews - they're not just showing you around, they're making sure you understand and connect with these remarkable places. Whether it's Evan explaining the formation of the Rockies or Khriss pointing out ancient petroglyphs in the desert, they bring these landscapes to life.
Best places to start your North America tour
Las Vegas serves as the main gateway with 18 of our travelers starting there, while Calgary sees 14 departures, Vancouver handles 13, and Anchorage and also Los Angeles welcome 9 and 8 departures respectively. Our booking patterns show you should lock in your spot about 112 days before departure - just under 4 months ahead. This timing really matters for summer trips to national parks and the Canadian Rockies since spaces get snapped up fast. Our regular travelers suggest booking even earlier for July and August, especially if you want to stay at the national park lodges. Las Vegas morning departures give you great desert views right from the start, while Calgary puts you right at the foot of the Rockies. Many people add extra days in the cities, with Vancouver being particularly popular for its food scene and summer festivals.

Our Southwest winter tours have adapted nicely to the cooler months with small groups of just 14 people max exploring Utah's desert landscapes. The winter route takes you along Monterey's historic waterfront, through the charming streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea and also along the Pacific Coast Route 1. You'll explore Antelope Canyon's sculpted walls, walk through Monument Valley with expert guides and catch the sun setting at the Grand Canyon - just pack those extra layers. Our travelers tell us they love having hiking trails almost to themselves, and when snow lightly covers the red rocks, it creates some really special photo moments.

The Southwest national parks hit their stride in spring, while the Canadian Rockies start opening their trails. Our 7-day camping tours through Utah and Arizona are particularly popular as the hiking temperatures get just right. Desert wildflowers pop up everywhere adding color, and the snowmelt fills the rivers - making that Zion Narrows hike especially good. Up in Canada, our Rockies tours kick off as the snow pulls back, giving you both snowy mountain peaks and fresh green valleys to explore around Banff and also Jasper.

Fall in the Canadian Rockies brings golden aspens in Banff and rich autumn colors around Jasper, with quieter trails to enjoy them from. You get all the same great hikes but with fewer people around. The Southwest really comes into its own too - our travelers find the temperature perfect for longer explorations into the Grand Canyon and tackling those bigger Zion Park trails. The clear autumn air makes for great photos, especially at Monument Valley sunrise and also Grand Canyon sunset.
