Great Tour Director & coach driver. Kudos to Alexis & Blair for making the journey stress free & enjoyable! The hotels were fine except for the one in Jasper, the Lobstick Lodge, which had no ramp to carry luggage up. The Sun Peaks Lodge was wonderful! To make the trip even more unforgettable be sure to take the options or reserve your own with Get Your Guide and Vialtor like we did. I totally recommend the Wonders of the Canadian Rockies tour.

Although the trip was good, we were 52 people without name tags. When I tried to leave this comment with Trafalgar, they claimed this was to help the environment. Surely a company of that size could be less patronizing and find a way to allow passengers and to tour directors to remember each other's names without impacting the environment! Also, the Rushmore Hotel was not acceptable. The location was not in the heart of Rapid City. The décor was a factory motif, complete with exposed pipes. There were only two elevators for four bus loads of travelers and one was out of order. The breakfast pancake was so hard I could not cut it with a knife. Also the airport in Rapid City is very small with seven gates and few carriers. This makes traveling difficult! In conclusion, I would recommend Tourradar, but not Trafalgar!

North American tours combine outdoor adventures with educational experiences that work well for all ages. Yellowstone National Park offers regular viewings of Old Faithful and opportunities to see grizzly bears wolves and bison roaming freely. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center provides close encounters with native animals while Denali National Park's Junior Ranger program gives children hands-on learning experiences. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The excursions we went on were fabulous. We saw a lot in all 4 islands the accommodations were fantastic." Additional activities range from canoe trips in Jasper National Park to whale watching near Victoria Island with specific routes like the Tunnel of Trees in Kauai providing unique natural experiences.
What are the typical accommodation options for families on North American tours?
North American family tours use properties selected for their location comfort and family-friendly amenities. National park areas feature places like Capitol Reef Resort in Utah and Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort where families find swimming pools kids' programs and rooms designed for groups. Many itineraries mix different lodging styles. The Family Canadian Adventure for example combines hotel stays with guided camping experiences. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The hotels in Hawaii Maui and Kauai were fantastic with great locations and good food." Properties such as The Twin Fin Waikiki provide flexible room arrangements including connected rooms and suites that work well for families.
What should families pack for a North American tour?
The packing list depends on your destination and time of year. Key items include walking shoes layers for changing weather sun protection and required medications. Alaska trips need warm clothing even during summer months while Hawaii calls for swimwear reef-safe sunscreen and lightweight clothing. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Each traveler is allowed luggage size of 30"x18"x10" and a weight limit of 50lbs." Useful extras include cameras binoculars for wildlife spotting and children's comfort items. For tours with camping like those in the Canadian Rockies operators provide main equipment but families need personal items such as sleeping bags and lights.
How are meals handled on family tours in North America?
Tour packages typically cover hotel breakfasts select group dinners and distinctive local experiences like Navajo meals at Monument Valley or Hawaiian luaus. The schedule allows time for families to explore local dining spots independently. Tours can accommodate special diets when arranged in advance. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "The food options were great for both adults and kids - from casual pizzas at the Grand Canyon rim to more upscale dining experiences that still welcomed children."
When is the best time to take a family trip to North America's national parks?
Each region has its prime visiting season. Northern parks like Yellowstone and the Canadian Rockies work best in summer (June-August) when weather is mild and animals are active. The Grand Canyon and southwest parks are most pleasant in spring (March-May) before summer heat arrives. Fall months (September-October) bring fewer visitors and comfortable temperatures to most locations. A past traveler advised: "September was a perfect time to experience this tour. My travel friend and I would highly recommend this trip."
What educational experiences are available for children in North America?
Learning opportunities appear throughout North American tours. Children can join ranger programs in national parks explore Native American heritage at places like Whistler's Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre and engage with exhibits at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Expert guides such as "Canyon Tim" at the Grand Canyon explain local geology while whale watching trips off Victoria teach marine biology. One TourRadar participant shared: "Our guide shared so much information ahead of time about the places we were headed...whether it be a national park we always had info."
