Our 3 day cabin and canoe adventure was the highlight of our Ontario trip... in fact we would go as far to say as it was genuinely the best experience of our lives so far! We visited from the UK with an interest in the wilderness but no canoe or Canada experience. It didn't matter! We were able to join in all of the activities fully, learn about the forest, learn new skills (canoeing, fishing, sewing bark, fungi awareness, identifying bird and animal calls) and feel completely relaxed at the same time. The silent dusk paddle and the sunset adventure were incredibly moving; we felt in touch with nature and with ourselves thanks to the excellent guiding and teaching by Baris and Jake. The cabin is a shady sanctuary from the hot sun, is just as picture perfect as the website suggests and the food is incredible! I am lucky enough to have been on various trips and tours in different countries and this far surpassed all of them in terms of hospitality, adventure, kindness and relaxation. I wish we could make it an annual trip, it was like therapy for the soul! We can't say enough good things about our trip, we shall definitely return. Thank you to Baris, Jake and Syd, you helped us to make incredible memories that will last forever!

Outside the cities Eastern Canada's natural areas are just incredible. Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland is UNESCO listed and seriously amazing with these dramatic fjords huge cliffs and unique geological features. You can hike the Western Brook Pond Trail or take a boat tour for some spectacular views. Then there's Fundy National Park in New Brunswick with these incredible cliffs waterfalls and the world's highest tides you can hike or kayak there depending what you're into. Prince Edward Island National Park's got beautiful beaches sand dunes and that picture-perfect Covehead Lighthouse. Getting around's pretty flexible you can drive take guided tours or use public transport depending on where you're headed and what time of year it is.
How Do You Get Around Eastern Canada?
Getting around Eastern Canada's actually pretty straightforward. VIA Rail connects all the major spots like Toronto Montreal Ottawa and Quebec City and the views from the train are fantastic. Renting a car gives you lots of freedom especially if you're hitting the national parks and coastal areas and carpooling can make it more affordable. The big cities have really good public transport with buses subways and streetcars that'll get you pretty much anywhere you need to go. If you're exploring the coastal areas there's plenty of ferries connecting islands to the mainland just make sure you check the schedules especially in the Maritime provinces.
What Local Food Should You Try and Where Can You Find It?
The food scene in Eastern Canada's incredible and there's some dishes you just can't miss. Poutine's probably the most famous it's this amazing combo of fries cheese curds and gravy you'll find it everywhere from fancy restaurants to street vendors. The Atlantic Lobster's absolutely fantastic especially at those seaside spots in Nova Scotia New Brunswick and PEI. Jigg's Dinner's this really traditional Newfoundland meal with salt beef potatoes and vegetables you'll find it in St. John's pubs and restaurants. The Maritime Sugar Camp lunch at Sugar Moon Farm in Nova Scotia's great if you love maple syrup and don't miss an Acadian Lobster Boil it's this awesome communal feast with lobster clams potatoes and corn that coastal communities really know how to do right.
