Corner Brook

- Day 2
Corner Brook to Cow Head (3-hour drive)
Visit the Newfoundland Insectarium in the morning between 10 AM and 2 PM when the butterfly house is most active. The drive north to Cow Head follows the Viking Trail with stunning views of Gros Morne National Park. Bring warm layers since northern Newfoundland gets chilly even in summer.

Gros Morne National Park
Gros Morne is a UNESCO World Heritage site you won't want to miss. Take the early morning Bonne Bay boat tour for calmer waters and better wildlife viewing. If you choose the Western Brook Pond tour, wear good shoes for the 3km walk to the dock. The views of the fjord are incredible. Don't skip the Tablelands with its unique rust-colored lunar-like landscape.

Cow Head to Gander (5.5-hour drive)
Leave early for this longer drive through Central Newfoundland. Plan to reach Gander before 5 PM to visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum. The town's incredible 9/11 story shows true Newfoundland hospitality and locals still enjoy sharing their experiences.

Gander to Clarenville via Twillingate
Take the coastal route to Twillingate and visit Long Point Lighthouse at low tide for the best views. Stop at Prime Berth Fishery Centre to learn about traditional fishing. Be careful driving through Terra Nova National Park, especially at dusk when moose are active.

Bonavista Peninsula Day Trip
It's about 1.5 hours each way from Clarenville to Bonavista. Visit Cape Bonavista Lighthouse early since morning fog usually clears by 10 AM. Book Trinity's historic walking tours in advance during peak season.

The climb is steep but rewards you with great city views. Find dinner near McGill University where there are lots of casual restaurants.

Montreal to Quebec City
Take the historic Chemin du Roy route to Quebec City through French-Canadian villages. Join the afternoon walking tour of Old Quebec. Wear good walking shoes and bring water, especially during humid July and August.

Quebec City
Spend the day in this UNESCO World Heritage site. You can take the optional Tadoussac whale watching trip, but it's a long day with 3 hours of driving each way. Montmorency Falls is a shorter option just 15 minutes from the city. Take the cable car up instead of climbing the stairs.

Ottawa
Stop for lunch at Sucrerie de la Montagne sugar shack on your way from Quebec City. Ottawa deserves two full days to see Parliament Hill (book free tours at parl.ca) and the museums. Walk along the Rideau Canal early before tourist crowds arrive.

Ottawa to Huntsville
Drive through Algonquin Provincial Park. Bring bug spray as the forest trails have lots of mosquitoes. If you don't want to hike far, the visitor center trails offer good wildlife viewing.

Niagara Falls
Take the Hornblower Niagara Cruises boat ride in late afternoon when it's less crowded. Watch sunset from the Skylon Tower. Book morning helicopter tours when the air is calmer.

Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto
Visit Niagara-on-the-Lake early before day-trippers fill the heritage district. The 2-hour drive to Toronto ends around 5:30 PM. Plan to leave town the next day since rush hour traffic is unpredictable.

Truly enjoyed this trip. We did the 9 days starting in Corner Brook and ending in St John's. Our local tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. This started our trip in a relaxed vibe. We met up with Robb- tour gulde and Hank - bus driver. They made this a memorable trip. I give the hotels a 4 or 5 star in food and accommodation. It was a trip I will remember for sometime.
