Northern Lights Tours & Trips in Nordic / Scandinavia
The Aurora Borealis across Scandinavia means watching from Finnish Lapland, Norway's fjords, or Iceland's Blue Lagoon area. Northern Lights paint the Arctic sky in ways that make you understand why people travel so far to see them. These Nordic regions all offer different backdrops for when those colors start dancing across the darkness up north. Are you ready to see them for yourself?

My husband and I recently cam back from this 8 days northern lights tour. This trip will always be very special for many reasons. Ronan was our tour guide and I hope next time we go to Iceland we get him as our tour guide again. He made sure everything went smooth everyday and told us many stories about Icelandic culture, history, politics. Highly recommend him. This itinerary was perfect our first and last day's northern hunting tour was cancelled because of the bad weather but we were lucky enough to see the lights twice during the tour and it was truly spectacular. Food is delicious (we are vegetarions) we got few options like burger, soup, cold sandwiches and roll but it was all good. We got the best group and guide which made this journey extra special. During the whale watching boat tour it took us almost 3 hours but we couldn't spot any whale but the tour operators didn't give up and we were at the sea for 1 extra hour and managed to get the glimpse of a whale and we are grateful for that opportunity. We interacted with Icelandic horses, cows and some dogs which we were not expecting. Locations of the hotel are exceptional. Overall a very memorable experience. Thank you TourRadar and Arctic adventure.

We were so pleased with the itinerary for our 7 day self-drive tour. It allowed enough flexibility for us to detour at will and still visit key sites. The nightly accommodations were clean and comfortable (if you don't mind single beds) and breakfast was plentiful at each hotel (although the coffee should come with a warning - not so good at the hotels - except Fosshotel Baron in Reykjavik was pretty good by comparison). While weather interrupted one day's plan, our agent suggested alternatives and we were able to enjoy the day. It was an exceptional trip for a reasonable price. Of course, we have to go back because 7 days isn't enough to truly see Iceland. Will use TourRadar again!!!

Wonderful tour experience from booking to end. Tour operator was excellent in making adjustments to our itinerary to accommodate additional days before and after the tour. Communication during the tour was great as well.

What our customers ask about Northern Lights Tours & Trips in Nordic / Scandinavia
When is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Nordic/Scandinavia?
The Northern Lights are most visible from late September to late March in Nordic/Scandinavia with peak viewing during the winter months of December through February. The darkest skies appear between 5 PM and 2 AM particularly in locations like Tromsø Norway and the Jokkmokk region of Swedish Lapland. The Aurora Village in Ivalo Finland provides an excellent viewing setup with glass-roofed cabins that let visitors watch the lights from their beds. According to a TourRadar traveler "We saw the Northern Lights on multiple nights dancing across the sky - it was absolutely magical and worth staying up late for!"
What are the best locations in Nordic/Scandinavia for viewing the Northern Lights?
Key viewing spots concentrate in areas with minimal city lights including Tromsø in Northern Norway Swedish Lapland's Jokkmokk region and Finnish Lapland near Rovaniemi and Ivalo. These locations sit within the "aurora zone" where viewing conditions are most favorable. Popular viewing sites include Camp Tamok near Tromsø and Aurora Village in Ivalo which offer specialized facilities and expert guides. A TourRadar traveler shared "From staying in an amazing glass igloo in Finland to chasing lights in remote Norwegian fjords each location offered unique and breathtaking views of the aurora."
What type of accommodation is available during Northern Lights tours?
The range of places to stay spans from glass-roofed aurora cabins to standard hotels and wilderness lodges. Visitors can book specialized viewing cabins at Aurora Village in Ivalo modern rooms at Scandic Bryggen Hotel in Honningsvag or unique stays like the Ice Hotel in Swedish Lapland. Some tours include stays at Sápmi camps with heated tents. As one TourRadar traveler noted "The accommodations were perfectly chosen for aurora viewing - from our glass igloo at Aurora Village to the remote wilderness cabins each offered a different perspective on the lights."
What additional activities can I experience besides Northern Lights viewing?
Daytime activities in Nordic/Scandinavia complement nighttime aurora viewing. Options include dog sledding trips with Alaskan huskies visits to reindeer farms snowmobile rides through Arctic terrain and cultural exchanges with Sami communities. Many tours add ice fishing snowshoeing and stops at places like Santa's Village in Rovaniemi. A TourRadar traveler shared: "From meeting the reindeer dog sledding to seeing the Northern lights skiing and snowshoeing and meeting wonderful Sami people I cannot recommend this trip enough."
How many nights should I plan to maximize chances of seeing the Northern Lights?
Planning 3-4 nights in the aurora zone gives visitors the best chance to see the Northern Lights given changing weather patterns. Popular itineraries like the 7-night Swedish Lapland tour and 5-night Norway tour schedule multiple viewing opportunities at different locations. A TourRadar traveler noted: "We had three different chances to see the lights over five nights in Tromsø and were successful on two occasions - having multiple nights really increased our chances."
How much does a typical Northern Lights tour in Nordic/Scandinavia cost?
Tours range from 1745 USD to 4985 USD for 5-7 day trips. Costs vary based on lodging choices included activities and travel dates. High-end experiences such as Finnish Lapland tours with glass igloo stays typically cost more. Tour prices generally cover lodging some meals guided activities and transfers between sites. A TourRadar traveler shared: "While not a budget destination the unique experiences and quality of services made it worth every penny."
