China Tours & Trips
Picture yourself standing before the Great Wall, watching it snake across mountains as far as you can see. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square in Beijing, Xi'an's Terracotta Warriors – these aren't just photos you've seen, they're real. Cruise the Yangtze River through dramatic gorges, bike Xi'an's medieval wall, sail the Li River past Yangshuo's karst landscapes. Shanghai's modern skyline, Guilin's rice terraces. China's waiting.

Our tour was "A journey in China with Yangtze river cruise 11 days private tour with Realistic Asia. The tour was well organized. Hotels were excellent. The location of Beijing and Shanghai hotels were more accessible to shops and other places of interest than the Xian hotel which was located in a beautiful historic area, but the Xian hotel rooms and breakfast were the nicest. Tour guides spoke good English and were attentive and helpful. All guides provided information on the history of attractions, Xian and Shanghai guides provided more comprehensive information in English. Our cruise was on China Goddess 3, rather than Victoria cruises. The ship, cabin and food were excellent. Service was attentive on the ship. However, limited English speaking staff with translating apps regularly required. Hygiene/cleaning could also have been improved. Included tours on cruise were Snowy Jade Cave, Lesser Gorges and Three Gorges Dam. The English speaking tour guides for these included cruise tours were provided locally. The quality of the guides was poor, particularly for the Snowy Jade Cave and Three Gorges Dam. There would be a 5-10 minute Chinese description of the sights and then a 10-15 second very brief English translation. The guide for the Lesser Gorges tour had a better grasp of the English language and provided a few minutes translation for sights but still significantly less than the Chinese commentary provided. Overall, I would recommend the tour and commend the organization by Thang who assisted with our booking. Main area for improvement is the local tour commentary in English for the river cruise included tours.

The highlights of the trip were definitely the history and the tour guides. They were knowledgeable, engaging, and did a great job bringing China’s history and culture to life. I learned a lot throughout the journey, and the historical sites were impressive. The food was also very good, with a nice variety of local dishes and experiences. My main criticism is the amount of travel time. I understand that some long travel days are unavoidable on a tour of this size, and I was fine with having one full day dedicated to travel. However, having two separate travel-heavy days made the itinerary feel more exhausting than enjoyable. I would suggest either shortening the stay in Beijing by one day or replacing one of the longer travel segments with a flight to make the journey more efficient and allow for more time exploring. Overall, this was a memorable trip with great guides, fascinating history, good food, and excellent accommodations at the beginning of the trip. With a few adjustments to the transportation schedule, it could easily be a 5-star experience.

The tour overall was a great success!!! I met many wonderful people on the trip from all over the world and forged some great friendships with people that even one year later I have keep in contact with. The trip with many unexpected adventures that exceeded my expectations. I found China an amazing place to visit the people are friendly, and very helpful. Everywhere we went I encountered people who went above and beyond on the daily, to make up this alluring and mystical adventure destinations like no other. I am extremely grateful on the wonderful tour operator that took the time to perfectly put together the plethora of details that made this trip so great. 😃🤩

Best time to visit China
- Summer 2026
Summer tours adapt cleverly to the warmth by focusing on early mornings and evenings. In Beijing, we start before the crowds with tai chi in the Temple of Heaven's grounds and explore the Forbidden City before peak heat hits. Yangshuo becomes a natural summer choice where you can cool off on bamboo rafts along the Li River and duck into cave systems between the karst formations. The Yangtze River cruises prove especially popular, offering air-conditioned comfort while passing the Three Gorges. Our guides have perfected the timing of outdoor activities, and travelers regularly tell us how much they value this thoughtful scheduling during the warmer months.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall consistently ranks as our travelers' favorite season, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures perfect for exploring. The Beijing-Xi'an-Shanghai route really comes into its own from September through October - you get exceptional Great Wall visibility and outdoor markets filled with harvest specialties. Guilin draws many guests in autumn when the rice terraces turn golden and the light hits just right for photos. Our travelers often mention how enjoyable it is to explore Pingyao's ancient streets and also wander through Shanghai's French Concession during these cooler months. The pandas stay quite active in fall, making Chengdu an excellent addition to any autumn itinerary.

- Winter 2026 / 2027
Winter travel in China offers smart advantages for exploring culture and outdoor sites. Our travelers consistently highlight Guilin tours this time of year, as the clear winter atmosphere creates ideal conditions for capturing photos of the limestone peaks and taking Li River cruises. The multi-city routes linking Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai and also Chengdu have become visitor favorites - you'll discover the Forbidden City, bike along Xi'an's city walls and explore Shanghai's French Concession with notably fewer tourists around. These winter journeys stand out for their seasonal adaptations, including early morning visits to see active giant pandas in Chengdu, followed by evening shows featuring face-changing opera and acrobatics. The Great Wall takes on a different character in winter, with crisp air providing excellent visibility, and our groups often find themselves alone on various sections. While temperatures certainly drop, visitors tell us the cool weather makes extended walks through historical areas more pleasant and rich with atmosphere.

- Spring 2027
Spring's mild weather creates perfect conditions for exploring China's key destinations. Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai connect naturally on our most-booked routes. The Great Wall camping tours really shine in April and May - you'll walk sections most visitors never see and catch incredible sunrises right from your camp on the wall. Shanghai's gardens burst into bloom this time of year, from the classical Yu Garden to the traditional water towns nearby. Our travelers often mention how comfortable the spring temperatures are for longer outdoor activities like cycling through Yangshuo's limestone peaks or exploring Xi'an's lively Muslim Quarter food scene. The pandas get quite active in spring too, which makes Chengdu visits extra special during these months.
