Maybe a little more free time. It's an intense itinerary that covers so very much. I don't know how to suggest more balance without missing so many great places and experiences.

Overall, it was a good way to see a lot of different places in the UK, although the time spent on the bus was a sort of necessary evil. We had an excellent guide in Mike Cole, who was very conscientious about offering information prior to each stop and facilitating our logistics at hotels, etc. Mike also has good people skills and connected personally with our group. Meyrion was our driver and was very congenial and upheld high professional standards. We felt very safe with him at the wheel. Two suggestions, however: 1. There were maps provided for most of our city stops, but not in Oxford. There should also be a map provided for that stop. We had someone who was unable to locate the bus and had to be left behind. (She later rejoined the tour in Leeds.) She didn't have a data connection on her phone, so she couldn't use GPS, and no one on the street was able to help her with directions. 2. I don't know how many others felt the same way, but I didn't need or want music playing over the speakers without an option for turning them off. It also seemed to become louder and more intrusive in the final few days, too, requiring me to block it out by using an mp3 player. If music were to play, it should be more middle of the road (soft rock, acoustic, folk, Beatles, etc.), not anything harsh or too unfamiliar.

What our customers ask about England and Scotland Family Tours
What are the best family-friendly attractions and activities in England and Scotland?
England and Scotland present a rich mix of activities that blend education with entertainment. The Jacobite Steam Train that inspired Harry Potter winds through the Scottish Highlands past the Glenfinnan Viaduct while the Roman Baths in England brings ancient history to life. Active families will find outdoor adventures in the Lake District and the chance to spot Nessie at Loch Ness. Edinburgh Castle's interactive exhibits let children step back in time while Killarney National Park offers traditional horse-drawn carriage rides. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The guide Chris was amazing. His passion for Scottish history was second to none and he even gave a demonstration of Kilt wearing and sword use which people from other bus tours were clearly jealous of and joined in to watch."
What type of accommodation can families expect on these tours?
Tour accommodations focus on comfort and convenience with 3-4 star hotels and guesthouses. Properties like the InterContinental Edinburgh The George provide central locations while the Kingsmills Hotel Inverness offers rooms designed for families. Many hotels feature connecting rooms or family suites to keep groups together. One TourRadar reviewer noted "The accommodations were very family-friendly - our room at the Clayton Hotel Cardiff was perfect for our family of four with plenty of space and great breakfast options for the kids."
What meals are typically included in family tours?
Tours generally cover daily hotel breakfasts with both continental and traditional British options. Select programs like Trafalgar's family tours add special experiences such as castle banquets and Scottish evening performances. Local restaurants like Glasgow's Mharsanta serve authentic dishes while supporting regional producers. According to a TourRadar review: "Food was good enough... though I miss self exploring! And the things that pop up along the way."
How do tours handle transportation between destinations?
Modern coaches with air conditioning and WiFi serve as the primary mode of transport. The journey becomes part of the experience with rides on the Jacobite Steam Train known to Harry Potter fans as the Hogwarts Express and boat trips to islands like Skye. One TourRadar traveler commented: "Our driver was an excellent driver extremely helpful and all around nice. The coach was very comfortable and the timing of the stops seemed reasonable."
What educational opportunities are available for children on these tours?
Learning comes naturally through hands-on experiences at sites like Hadrian's Wall and Edinburgh Castle. Children discover medieval life at Warwick Castle explore Roman history in Bath and engage with science at London's museums. Each stop presents history in an accessible way. A TourRadar reviewer shared: "Our guide was very knowledgeable and made history come alive for the children with entertaining stories and anecdotes."
How suitable are these tours for children of different ages?
These tours work best for children 5 and older with most companies welcoming kids up to 18. The pace allows for regular breaks while mixing sites like Alnwick Castle's Harry Potter connections with natural wonders like Loch Ness. Hotels such as the Hilton Cardiff provide spaces where families can relax between activities. As mentioned by a TourRadar traveler: "The pace was good and there were nice variety of castles palaces and English charm that kept everyone in the family engaged."
