Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips in Africa
Ever thought about hiking Africa properly? Kilimanjaro's got routes, Drakensberg trails through South Africa, and Simien Mountains where geladas just stare at you. There’s Table Mountain above Cape Town, and Atlas treks in Morocco, along with Mount Kenya for altitude fans. Wildlife makes every trail completely unpredictable compared to hiking literally anywhere else.

This is the 2nd time I trek with OneSeed. I Love their service, especially support their approach of investing in local people. Our Kili guides are super nice, very knowledgeable, and KIND. I’ll definitely go with OneSeed again.
Kilimanjaro Lemosho Summit and Camping SafariThis was our second time in Tanzania and World Adventure Tours gave us the once in a lifetime experience of getting to Kilimanjaro's summit. I can honestly say that we would not have done this on our own and was only possible with the expert support from the wonderful guides (Meshack & Urio), porters Brian, Thomas, Karoki, Kimati, Noel, Japheth........ and cook Marto. They were on top of every aspect of the trek with their experience, motivation and the resources from World Adventure Tours to ensure that we were safe, comfortable and happy. The overall experience exceeded all our expectations and I would not hesitate going on another adventure with them.
Climb Kilimanjaro – Lemosho 8 Days | Scenic & Moderate Trek with Expert GuidesExceeded all expectations!!! My friend and I booked without much prior research into the different routes of Kilimanjaro or what it entailed. We landed on our feet with World Adventure Tours (associated with Zara tours, both female owned companies). We did the 6-day Machame route, which was beautiful, and each day was a new captivating landscape. Our guides Living and TomTom were professional, inspiring, great company and FUN!! We grooved our way up that mountain (Living's afro-piano playlist is off the charts good!). It was clear they were well-respected with other guides/teams on the mountain and in Moshi. Our entire team of guides, porters, chef and waiter were OUTSTANDING (shout out to Joseph, who was a delight to see at the beginning and end of every hike) and we couldn't have asked for better company. Meeting other hikers along the route and hearing their experiences, we realised just how lucky we had been even from initially booking through to the end of the tour. Our tour contact Joyce was exceptionally clear and kept us well-informed throughout, making sure we were always on the same page about the plans. The hotel Springlands at the beginning and end of the tour blew us away, all the staff (shout out to Nur) and even the transfers in between all were well beyond what we had anticipated. Springlands celebrated my birthday with a delicious cake and all the staff came and sang which was a special gesture I will always remember ❤️ By pure chance, we ended up booking this tour and it feels like we were blessed 🙏 Don’t pass up this chance—you won’t regret it! SIX STARS!!! (PS - We met a couple who did safari with World Adventure Tours who also sang their praises).

What our customers ask about Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips in Africa
What are the best hiking trails in Africa for various skill levels?
Africa's hiking trails range from accessible paths to demanding mountain ascents. The Machame Route on Mount Kilimanjaro takes intermediate hikers through varied landscapes while the Marangu Route welcomes beginners with a gentler ascent. The Northern Circuit boasts a 95% summit success rate thanks to its gradual climb that helps with altitude adjustment. For experienced climbers the Lemosho Route presents technical challenges along with scenic views. The routes span 5-10 days with daily distances of 5-15km through ecosystems ranging from rainforest to high-altitude desert. As one TourRadar traveler notes: "The Machame Route was challenging yet rewarding offering breathtaking views and a true sense of adventure."
What type of accommodation can I expect on multi-day hikes in Africa?
Accommodations on Kilimanjaro vary by route. The Marangu path provides basic mountain huts with dormitory-style setup. Other popular routes like Machame and Lemosho use two-person dome tents at designated camping areas. Before and after the trek most tours include 2-3 nights at hotels in Moshi such as the Panama Garden Resort or Springlands Hotel. According to a TourRadar traveler review: "The Mountain crew made us really feel comfortable and safe. Camp crew made sure they get to camp early and set up the camping compound appropriately."
How physically demanding are African mountain treks?
Mountain treks in Africa require solid fitness levels particularly for Kilimanjaro climbs. Summit days stretch 12-15 hours with elevation gains exceeding 1,200 meters often starting at midnight in cold conditions. The Machame Route covers 10-12km daily at elevations between 3,000-4,600 meters. While technical skills aren't always needed altitude poses the main challenge. A TourRadar traveler shares: "The summit night was extremely challenging - my guide was superb with the right balance of support and tough love. You need to be prepared for altitude which is the biggest challenge rather than technical difficulty."
What is the best time of year for hiking in Africa?
The prime hiking seasons for Kilimanjaro run from June to October and December to March when weather conditions are dry and visibility is good. The Machame Route shows its best colors during these months with higher success rates for reaching the summit. January and February bring the most favorable summit conditions with mild temperatures and clear skies. Avoid March to May and November when heavy rains make trails challenging. As noted by a TourRadar traveler: "We summited in January with perfect weather conditions - clear skies for sunrise at Uhuru Peak made every step worth it."
How much does a guided trek in Africa typically cost and what's included?
Kilimanjaro guided treks cost between 1,650 USD and 3,700 USD for 6-10 day expeditions averaging 350 USD daily. The price covers professional guides porters cooks all meals camping equipment park fees and rescue services. Additional expenses include recommended tips (200-300 USD per climber) gear rentals and hotel stays before and after the trek. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The price was worth every penny - the professionalism and dedication of the entire crew especially the guides and porters made this an unforgettable experience."
