Africa Family Tours

Africa with family is genuinely life-changing, and you’re teaching your kids about wildlife and culture first-hand. Imagine Victoria Falls' amazing thundering spectacle, wildlife-spotting at Chobe National Park, meeting elephants at Elephant Sands, riding traditional dugout canoes through Okavango Delta waterways, camping on a remote island, and supporting conservation at Khama Rhino Sanctuary. There’s nothing else quite like this.

My wife and I hadn't "camped" since we were married some 35 years ago but we more than survived the 5 days on Safari. We loved the whole experience. For those thinking reluctantly about camping in a Game Park what you get far exceeds the little "perceived" discomfort of camping. If you stay in a Lodge adjoining a park - you will have to lose Game viewing time travelling in and out of the park to have that comfort,, The tour we were on is not Glamping, You sleep in two man tents, on cots with warm bedding and a cover on the floor of the tent. You are provided a rechargeable light with your tent, There is an open air "ensuite" at the rear accessed through a zip. It is like a closed courtyard with a canvas floor. The Camp Toilet is surprising okay and you have to co-ordinate a daily shower. My wife and I are not experienced campers and we managed the timing of all this. There will be an open camp fire and a communal eating area, The food was all cooked over an open fire and was great. KD our Chef really had to be congratulated for the food, The funny thing is the first night we were all in a Lodge after 5 days camping - we all said we probably slept better in our camp cot? There is NO TV - NO Internet. Everyone had wonderful days and arrived back in camp excited and tired having seen wonderful animal sightings all day. We had dinner, went to our tents and prepared for the next early morning game drive, From two very inexperienced Campers please do not let any thoughts of "Camping" hold you back. We had Hyena and Lions in our camp overnight - there was no danger - just stay in your tent at night, A herd of Elephants went by one night and given their size they are surprisingly quiet, The sights our Guide Chief showed us will be with us forever. Honestly our experiences in Africa have been wonderful. We saw 33 mammal varieties, endless birds, 33 Lions. 5 Leopards, hundreds of elephants, buffalo and hippos, many zebras and giraffes, multiple antelopes varieties in endless quantities, We saw a Leopards and Lions with Kills and saw a Leopard hunting, Our first day left us in awe and our second and third days were even better.

TourRadar and Intrepid really looked after us from when we first thought of going to Morrocco. The family trip was fabulous for this family of 4...grandparents, dad n grandson. The size of our group, 3 families, 14 people from 7 to 72 was perfect. We had a wonderful guide, Hamid, who made sure our days were balanced so the kids didn't get bored and older people had their cultural fix. Actually, the younger ones got as much out of the informative guides Hamid arranged for us as we did. The home visits were wonderful and we saw a different face of Morrocco with each of the 3 families who opened their homes to us. The village visit made a big impact on those of school age. We felt we were given a guiding hand in the souks and medinas and at no time were we pressured to buy. The tour provided excellent accommodation. The food was wonderful. The country, the people and their culture, surpassed all of our expectations. Hamid and driver, Moussa, are an asset to the trade and Intrepid. They were both patient and very caring. The children loved them. Will be back !!! Freda Backes

Overall it was a fantastic holiday and a wonderful, exciting and educational trip. Our children (10 & 12) had a fabulous time. We felt very lucky to have such a kind, funny and intelligent guide who was always on hand and keen to ensure we had the best time and the least to worry about. We also felt we got lucky with the other family on the tour who were lots of fun, keen and enthusiastic travellers and whose two boys, despite a large age gap with our children, were kind enough to spend lots of time together, got on like a house on fire and had so much fun. Highlights were the overnight train, the scenery at Aswan, sleeping aboard the felucca, the temple in Karnak, the valley of the kings and swimming at sunset in the Red Sea. Food was generally good but the food available in most of the hotels at lunchtime, poor versions of Italian dishes, was so disappointing when falafel, pitta, cheese pastries and other dishes we would happily eat for lunch were on offer at breakfast. The boat trip on the final day in the Red Sea was out of character with the rest of the tour - the crew showed little sign of caring about the reef or the fish, encouraging people to stand on the reef, disturb or feed fish for photo opportunities, and depositing us on a beach with a dreadful bar for two hours which constantly blasted music unsuitable for children. Drop this trip, replace it with a shorter snorkelling tour on a boat where the crew know and care about the reef and that would be a suitable end to an excellent holiday.
