Bolivia and Peru Tours & Trips
Ever stood somewhere so high up you actually feel it? Lake Titicaca sits at altitude that takes your breath away. Machu Picchu earns every bit of its reputation, Bolivia's Uyuni Salt Flats stretch white to the horizon, and you can sandboard down Huacachina's dunes. The Sacred Valley winds through Andes peaks, Lima's Barranco neighborhood buzzes at night, and Colca Canyon drops dramatically deep. South America delivers.

We had a fantastic time, worth every penny! Our tour director Paulo was excellent, he made the trip worthwhile and informed us about everything and all we needed to know. He cared for every little detail, had everything prepared and made us all feel comfortable and safe. Apart from that the tour was well designed. We saw the best of every country and learned so much from the local guides, who were all good, especially Rudy in Cusco. All together this trip is highly recommended and a great thank you to Cosmos.

The tour was well organized by Eurolatino (located in Germany) and its local travel operators. We had asked to add 2 days in Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon region and skip the last day in Santiago de Chile, which was smoothly accomodated by Eurolatino. Although we never received any vouchers for hotels, tours or transfers, all local guides and drivers were always on time at the designated locations (except for a taxi that our local guide had ordered for the transfer from the pier to Copacabana after our return from Sun Island) and were fully briefed about our itinerary and the booked services. The local guides were very knowledgeable and accomodating to our needs. When our inbound flight from New York was delayed and we therefore arrived in Lima in the afternoon instead of the morning, our local guide managed to still show us the highlights of Lima in one hour instead of the half-day tour originally scheduled. Our local guide in Puno was aware that the Peruvian Migration Office in Yunguyo at the Bolivian border was still closed on the day of our visit (in late April 2023) after the protests in January and February of 2023 and had arranged for us to receive our exit stamp at the Migration Office in Puno harbor before transferring to the border. The only inconvenience was that we received the information about the pick-up time for our morning tour in San Pedro de Atacama at 3am on that morning. We had only tentatively booked the tours in San Pedro, as Javier Cordero of Eurolatino had suggested, and confirmed them 3 days before our arrival in San Pedro. Apparently that caused the schedule to be finalized in the last minute only. For anybody interested in a variety of landscapes and unique features I recommend booking the tours in San Pedro from the beginning. We liked all components of our trip. The big cities Lima, La Paz, Santiago de Chile, in some respects similar but in many respects different and distinct. The djungle tours in Puerto Maldonado. The Inca and colonial history in Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. The overland tour to the Altiplano from Cuzco to La Paz. The Salt Flats at Uyuni and the lagoons and mountain deserts all the way to San Pedro de Atacama. With hindsight, the only change I would make is rather than carrying our overnight necessities (you can leave the rest of the baggage in the car) up the hill on Sun Island (a higher ascend than on Machu Picchu) for a (certainly very nice) sunset, I would opt to visit the Floating Islands near Puno and then transfer directly to La Paz. The only reason for not giving a 5 star rating is that after we had paid the full price for the trip Javier Cordero tried to sell us an upgrade for the visit to Puerto Maldonado, indicating that the originally booked accomodation was not available. Only after I reminded him that the German law on packaged travel services requires the seller of the travel package to provide the services as described in the itinerary or substantially similar services, he confirmed that the itinerary would be provided for the price paid. Except for this irritation he provided an excellent service.

Best time to visit Bolivia and Peru
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Peru and Bolivia shine during winter months from June to August. Lima kicks off most routes before heading deep into the Amazon - you'll actually see more wildlife since it's the dry season with macaws, monkeys and otters hanging out along the river edges. The Inca Trail really comes into its own this time of year; those mountain views look incredibly sharp against winter's clear skies. Our groups love playing with perspective photos on the Uyuni Salt Flats, where the dry winter surface creates perfect mirror effects. The journey through La Paz, Sucre and Potosí lets you take in Bolivia's colonial buildings under deep blue skies, and many travelers add stops at Iguazu Falls where winter brings pleasant temperatures and lighter crowds.

- Spring 2026
September through November tours catch Peru and Bolivia's spring energy in full swing. We time several routes to hit local market days in Pisac and Chinchero, where spring brings fresh produce and local weavers showing off their latest textiles. The popular Arequipa, Lake Titicaca and Cusco combination works really well now - our travelers consistently tell us how the mild spring weather makes those altitude changes much gentler on the body. Many groups hop over to the Ballestas Islands where you'll spot active sea lion colonies and penguins doing their thing. The northern Argentina stretch into Bolivia shows off spring wildflowers through the Quebrada de Humahuaca, while groups finishing in Rio get caught up in the early carnival atmosphere.

- Summer 2026
Peru and Bolivia shine from June through August, when the crisp winter skies create ideal photography conditions. The Amazon sees more concentrated wildlife during these drier months, with macaws, monkeys and also otters gathering by the riverbanks. Our travelers tell us the Inca Trail delivers exceptional experiences this time of year, as mountain views stand sharp against the winter sky. The Uyuni Salt Flats offer perfect conditions for creative perspective photos, thanks to the dry winter surface creating mirror-like reflections. Exploring La Paz, Sucre, Potosí and also the colonial quarters happens under deep blue skies, while many visitors add Iguazu Falls to their itinerary when winter brings mild temperatures with fewer tourists. Multi-country routes from Lima prove especially effective, allowing proper altitude adjustment before heading into the Andes for mountain exploration and treks.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
The mild temperatures of September through November create perfect conditions for combining cultural exploration with hiking across Peru and Bolivia. Market days in Pisac and Chinchero come alive as fresh produce fills the stalls, and local artisans showcase their newest textiles. For most travelers, the classic route through Arequipa, Lake Titicaca and also Cusco becomes more comfortable during autumn when altitude changes are gentler on the body. Nature lovers can extend their journey to the Ballestas Islands, where sea lion colonies and penguins thrive in their natural habitat. Groups heading into northern Argentina find spring wildflowers dotting the Quebrada de Humahuaca before crossing to Bolivia, while those ending in Rio de Janeiro catch the early carnival spirit. The season's weather patterns provide exceptional clarity for photographers at major sites, and our tour groups appreciate the reduced crowds that allow extended time at Machu Picchu, the Uyuni Salt Flats and other notable locations.

What makes Peru and Bolivia different for travelers?
Peru's really all about those amazing Inca ruins especially Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley you'll do lots of trekking there and can explore deep into the Amazon jungle. Bolivia's got these incredible landscapes that'll take your breath away like the Uyuni Salt Flats and Lake Titicaca where you can get into desert adventures and really connect with local indigenous communities.
What local cultural experiences can you actually be part of?
In Peru you can learn traditional weaving from the women at Ccaccaccollo co-op in the Sacred Valley which is pretty special.
