I enjoyed the days in Norway. It is a fast paced itinerary but you never get bored at one place. Despite the pace I had quite some hours at each place where we stopped and hiked around. The trip definition matched my expectations. My travel fellows are quite diverse in terms of culture background and age. I think intrepid did a good job to make a satisfying tour for such a diverse group.

Best tour companies for Norway tours
Based on the feedback we've gathered, Globus comes out ahead for Norway tours - their "Scenic Norway" consistently gets good reviews for well-organized schedules and guides who really know their stuff. Intrepid Travel has a mixed track record up north; while they usually run solid trips, their "Northern Norway Explorer" fell short on local connections and needed better planning according to our travelers. If you're looking at booking through TourRadar with Vision of Scandinavia, you should know what you're getting into. Their itineraries look good on paper, but travelers mentioned gaps in the detailed info you'd want before heading out. Some folks ran into problems with hotel bookings and guide communication which is frustrating when you're far from home in Norway. The nice thing about Globus is they've figured out the logistics - their guides handle the complicated bits while you focus on enjoying Norway. That said, Vision of Scandinavia through TourRadar might work if you're comfortable with a bit more uncertainty and don't mind doing some extra research on your own. The bottom line? For a more reliable experience in Norway, Globus is probably your best bet among these options. If budget is tight though, just be sure to ask plenty of questions upfront about the details if you go with VOS through TourRadar.
Best places to start your Norway tour
Most people kick off their Norwegian journey in Oslo - we've got 32 tours starting from there. If you're looking at options, Copenhagen comes in second with 21 departures, Bergen offers 15 tours and Tromsø runs 13, while Stockholm rounds it out with 4 choices. Our booking patterns show you'll want to lock things in about 3.7 months ahead (that's 111 days) to get the dates and places you're after. Lots of our travelers really love mixing train and boat travel; the Bergen Railway takes you through gorgeous mountain country and connects nicely with the Flåm Railway for a proper fjord experience. When we ask about unexpected highlights, people often mention their time at traditional mountain farms and also those amazing king crab experiences up north.

Best time to visit Norway
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Norway brings out some truly special experiences, particularly for those heading above the Arctic Circle. Our most popular winter routes center around Tromsø, where you can join hybrid-electric boat trips through the fjords to spot seals and, if you're lucky, humpback whales. Several tours include stays at the Havila Cruise ships, positioning you perfectly for Northern Lights viewing between 5pm and 2am. Our travelers particularly value the cultural elements - you might find yourself welcomed into a Sámi lavvo-tent for hot drinks and reindeer encounters or trying your hand at king crab fishing near the Russian border. The winter adventures mix active options like dog sledding and snowmobiling with cozy evenings watching for aurora from prime viewing spots away from city lights.

- Spring 2026
Norway's spring tours blend late winter charm with early spring awakening, making it an excellent time to explore. Our private Oslo departures take you to Venabu's peaceful cross-country trails before heading westward where the fjord boats are back in service for the season. At Ægir Brewery, the Viking plank experience feels more intimate during spring, as the groups tend to be smaller and more relaxed. Many of our travelers combine Oslo's rich cultural scene with journeys on the Oslo-Myrdal-Flam railway, where melting snow creates powerful waterfalls cascading alongside the tracks. Balestrand has become a particular favorite, with its traditional Norwegian dinners featuring the freshest spring ingredients, local specialties and also seasonal delicacies. We hear consistently from customers that shoulder season brings excellent value without compromising the Nordic experience - from wandering Alesund's Art Nouveau streets to riding Bergen's Floibanen Funicular for sweeping views across the landscape as nature reawakens.

- Summer 2026
The summer months really open up what's possible in Norway, especially with those extra-long daylight hours. Our travelers often start in Bergen, wandering the historic waterfront and fish market before hopping on the Flåmsbana railway - it's quite something seeing the train wind through mountain tunnels and past cascading waterfalls. The Lofoten Islands are a highlight too; you can take RIB boats right into Trollfjord or climb peaks like Linken for some incredible views. We've made sure there's time built in for staying in traditional fishing villages and trying local catches. What works really well is how flexible the schedule is - you can go hiking, take optional boat trips or just sit back and take in those fjord views.
- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall gives Norway's landscapes this really special quality, and we've designed our autumn routes to make the most of it. Most tours kick off in Trondheim where you'll see both city life and coastal scenes before hitting the Atlantic Road - our customers say watching autumn storms roll in while driving this ocean-spanning route is something else. The UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord features heavily; you can boat past the Seven Sisters waterfall or hike up to Eagle Viewpoint for these sweeping views across the water. We mix cultural stops like the 14th-century Kvernes Stave Church with natural wonders such as the Briksdalsbreen glacier - you can hike there or take electric vehicles right up to the ice. The routes strike this nice balance between being outdoors during the day and spending evenings getting cozy in fjord-side hotels.
