just took my first group tour for 29 days thru SE Asia. I have to say G Adventures is the way to go. The itinerary was packed with amazing things to do and see. I highly recommended this type of vacation.

Great tour, great scenery. It won't include much nature, mostly cities/towns/villages. Definitely at least once in a lifetime trip with many memorable moments - sunsets, beaches, lively towns, historic sites like Bayon temple (loved it!), massive caves like I haven't seen before, really beautiful sunset scenery when paragliding, gorgeous mountains you get to climb etc. It was really great. The accommodations will be very basic but expected given the price. It'll be very active as you'll be spending a lot of time on the road every 1-2 days, perhaps a "chill" day every few days would make the trip less exhausting, especially when you're doing this for a whole month, as you'll be drained by the end, not ideal! The main gripe would be the constant guilt tripping and even blatant "it's not cool to tip less than we tell you" messages from tour guides. Constant pressure to tip, which I'm ok with to an extent, but, let's be honest, the demanded tips were way too much in some cases. And the "we are very poor that's why it's your obligation to throw your hard earned money at us" speeches that would last up to an hour need to be toned down, especially when people aren't that poor, just living like everywhere else. Personally I didn't work hard to afford once in a lifetime trip to be constantly nagged and be treated like a cash cow when I've already paid and I have little doubt that generous tipping was already included in the overall cost. With that said the tour guides were overall very friendly, accommodating. Zero issues with transportation, though do be ready on occasion to be drenched in sweat the whole day and jump into a train without a shower!

Vietnam's Central Highlands are incredible too you can explore coffee plantations and remote hill tribe communities by motorbike or car. Up in northern Laos Nong Khiaw is this hidden gem perfect for trekking through rice paddies and bamboo forests the pace is so relaxed and the scenery is just beautiful.
Which places are still relatively undiscovered but really worth visiting?
You should definitely check out Hoa Lu Vietnam's ancient capital it's got this amazing history but way fewer tourists than Ha Long Bay you can see it on the Circle Indochine 16 Days tour. The Wat Phu Temple complex in Laos's Champasak province is incredible ancient Khmer architecture without the crowds. What local foods should I definitely try and where can I find them?
You've got to try Fish Amok in Cambodia it's this incredible curry steamed in banana leaves you'll find amazing versions in Siem Reap restaurants. In Vientiane Laos don't miss Laap their national dish it's this really flavorful minced meat salad. Vietnam's famous for Pho of course you'll find the best bowls at street stalls all over Hanoi especially on the South East Asia Loop tour. And definitely grab a Banh Mi these incredible French-Vietnamese sandwiches are everywhere in Vietnam the street vendors make the best ones.
