Overall it was an excellent tour. The brochure accurately reflected the actual itinerary. Charlie was an excellent, knowledgeable guide who went out of his way to make sure we all got want we wanted out of the trip. Our driver Alex managed to negotiate some pretty tight back roads getting is to spots we couldn't have reached in a large coach. The coach itself was a little tight as far as leg room goes, and also in space for hand luggage, which was a problem for many of us. In general the hotels were good - all well situated and interesting in themselves. Some required using stairs, though Charlie carried luggage up and down to our rooms so that was not a major problem, except for our pre-tour stay in the Paris hotel, where we were allocated a 5 th floor room, with the lift only reaching the 4 th.
We completed a Back Roads tour of London to Paris via The Channel Islands in July 2017 (this year). This was our second tour with Back Roads and it was excellent. The hotels were all very good, included meals also excellent and the things we did and saw were of real interest. Our tour leader/driver was a young lady named Kate, she was top class, well organised, informative and always interested in how everyone was going. Cannot speak highly enough of her or the tour.
London to Paris via the Channel Islands
Our tour was really comprehensive but even better because John, our guide, emailed us before the tour to see if there were any tour members who had requests to visit the graves of relatives. This was then included on the tour. On the way back to Paris we detoured to visit the village where my grandfather was injured in August 1918. Definitely a highlight for me.
