I wanted to do a shorter tour six days and end up in St. John’s so this was perfect for me. Our guide Simon was excellent, very considerate and keen to show us new things. I thought the tour was a lovely balance of activity and some space. I saw all the important things I had come to Newfoundland for including the beautiful. Gros Morne national Park, some amazing icebergs and puffins.
Newfoundland Adventure: Eastbound - ER

Our 3 day cabin and canoe adventure was the highlight of our Ontario trip... in fact we would go as far to say as it was genuinely the best experience of our lives so far! We visited from the UK with an interest in the wilderness but no canoe or Canada experience. It didn't matter! We were able to join in all of the activities fully, learn about the forest, learn new skills (canoeing, fishing, sewing bark, fungi awareness, identifying bird and animal calls) and feel completely relaxed at the same time. The silent dusk paddle and the sunset adventure were incredibly moving; we felt in touch with nature and with ourselves thanks to the excellent guiding and teaching by Baris and Jake. The cabin is a shady sanctuary from the hot sun, is just as picture perfect as the website suggests and the food is incredible! I am lucky enough to have been on various trips and tours in different countries and this far surpassed all of them in terms of hospitality, adventure, kindness and relaxation. I wish we could make it an annual trip, it was like therapy for the soul! We can't say enough good things about our trip, we shall definitely return. Thank you to Baris, Jake and Syd, you helped us to make incredible memories that will last forever!

Best tour companies for Eastern Canada tours
Both Intrepid and Globus come up regularly in our travelers' feedback as solid choices for guided tours. Intrepid tends to shine with guides like Simon, who gets lots of positive comments for reading the group well and adjusting plans when needed. The tours run smoothly, and you can tell their guides really know their material without being too rigid about it. Globus takes a slightly different approach - they're known for really detailed itineraries and nicer hotels, plus their guides Scott and Daniel get mentioned often for keeping things organized while still being fun to travel with. They handle those inevitable travel hiccups without missing a beat. One small note about Globus - some of our travelers mention there can be quite a lot of information to take in during the tours. But most people actually appreciate this, saying it helps them understand everything they're seeing and experiencing. If you're the type who likes to really dig into the history and background of places, you'll probably find this a plus rather than a drawback. Both companies consistently deliver what they promise in different ways - Intrepid with their flexible, group-focused approach and Globus with their well-researched, comprehensive style.

Best places to start your Eastern Canada tour
Halifax has become the go-to starting point, with 42 of our travelers kicking off their tours there, while Toronto sees 21 departures, Corner Brook handles 12 starts and Montreal and also Quebec City manage 6 and 5 respectively. Our booking data tells us most people lock in their spots about 148 days ahead - that's roughly 5 months before departure. This early planning really matters for these small-group experiences since spaces tend to fill quickly. Our travelers often tell us they love starting in Halifax - its maritime character, rich history and walkable waterfront help them settle into the Atlantic Canada vibe. We're seeing more people opt for fall departures lately; you still get great whale watching but with beautiful fall colors and noticeably fewer tourists around.

Spring opens up prime maritime experiences, particularly in Newfoundland where you can watch icebergs drift down Iceberg Alley and spot the first whales returning to the bays. With small groups of 9-12 people, our guides can adjust the schedule around wildlife sightings and weather conditions. You'll take boat tours from Twillingate, visit Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and explore Gros Morne National Park as nature wakes up. Nova Scotia's spring tours take advantage of quieter streets in Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove and also traditional sugar shacks during peak maple season.
