I thought I would be part of a group travelling through Mexico. Some people may have enjoyed being a single traveller (with people from.other tours added on certain days). However, I missed the experience of the same company throughout the tour.

Despite language difficulties I found the tour better than my expectations. The guides were good and considerate and the drivers were very experienced. Also, I believe the people made the tour particularly joyful. We all got on so well and very helpful to each other - people from all corners of the world.

What our customers ask about Historical Tours & Trips in Mexico
What are the must-see historical sites on a Mexico tour?
Mexico's rich historical landscape spans from bustling urban centers to remote jungle ruins. The Metropolitan Cathedral and Templo Mayor anchor Mexico City's historical district while Monte Alban sits majestically above Oaxaca Valley. Chichen Itza remains one of the country's most visited Mayan complexes. The colonial architecture of San Cristobal de las Casas and Puebla provides excellent examples of Spanish influence while Palenque's jungle-shrouded ruins offer a more secluded experience. A TourRadar traveler noted "The combination of visiting the ancient Aztec Templo Mayor in Mexico City followed by the colonial architecture of Puebla gave us an incredible perspective of Mexico's rich history." Accommodations range from the centrally located Casa Blanca in Mexico City to convenient options like the Holiday Inn Express in Tuxtla Gutierrez.
When is the best time to visit Mexico's historical sites?
The period between November and March provides the most favorable conditions for exploring Mexico's historical treasures. During these months visitors can explore sites like Teotihuacán and Chichen Itza without intense heat or rain. TourRadar travelers report "The weather was perfect for exploring the ruins and learning about the fascinating Mayan history." This timing also means fewer crowds at places like Monte Albán making photography and site exploration more enjoyable. Hotels such as the Hotel Plaza Diana in Patzcuaro serve as comfortable bases during these optimal months.
How physically demanding are historical tours in Mexico?
Visitors should prepare for moderate physical activity throughout their historical tour of Mexico. Monte Alban requires walking at 400 meters above the Oaxaca Valley while Palenque's paths wind through dense jungle terrain. The high altitude of San Cristobal de las Casas (2200m) requires some adjustment time for most travelers. A TourRadar traveler shares "The ruins exploration required good walking shoes and moderate fitness but our guide at Chichen Itza paced the tour perfectly for everyone in the group." Most itineraries include strategic rest periods with stays at central locations like Casa Conzatti in Oaxaca.
What's the typical duration of a Mexico historical tour?
Most historical tours of Mexico span 5 to 15 days with 8-10 day itineraries being most common. The popular Aztecs & Mayas route takes 10 days to travel from Mexico City through Oaxaca to Palenque. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The 10-day tour was perfect - enough time to see major sites without feeling rushed." Accommodations typically include established properties like NH Reforma in Mexico City and Casa Mexicana in San Cristobal.
What's the typical accommodation like on a Mexico Historical tour?
Travelers can expect comfortable centrally located hotels that provide easy access to historical sites. The Casa Blanca Hotel near Mexico City's Zócalo and Hotel Posada del Rosario in Oaxaca represent the standard. In San Cristóbal de las Casas the Diego de Mazariegos hotel combines historical elements with modern comforts. A TourRadar review states "The hotels were carefully selected providing the perfect blend of local character and comfort especially appreciated after long days exploring archaeological sites."
What historical festivals or events can I experience in Mexico?
Mexico's calendar brims with historical celebrations. Day of the Dead (October 31-November 2) transforms cities like Oaxaca and Mexico City. The Guelaguetza festival brings pre-Hispanic traditions to Oaxaca in July while San Miguel de Allende's colonial festivals celebrate Spanish heritage. A TourRadar traveler reports "Experiencing Day of the Dead in Oaxaca was incredible - from the elaborate altars to the cemetery processions it really brought historical traditions to life." Tour operators often secure rooms at central locations like Casa Conzatti during these popular events.
