Hotel was in good location for outsourcing other trips, grabs like ubers and many restaurants. Most trips were good. The Lego land was substituted for crab island but not much was talked about during the trip. It was unclear what this was about. Overall, trip was good but batu caves was repeated 3 times. More could have been added here.

Overall an absolutely fantastic tour. We booked this 8 day trip fairly last minute mainly because the dates fit with the rest of our trip, but I’m so pleased we did as it turned out to be a great decision. Firstly, Alister our CEO was AMAZING. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide - he was friendly, knowledgeable, funny and completely in control every step of the way meaning we basically didn’t have to think and could just enjoy the ride - plus he is excellent at karaoke, a definite bonus. Secondly, the itinerary was a wonderful mix of ticking off the touristy items and some much more unusual activities. The homestay at the beginning and the island stay at the end were highlights in terms of activities, as we really felt we saw the real parts of Borneo, not just the places geared towards visitors. Swimming with fish in the local river at the homestay and seeing baby turtles hatching and being released on the island were two things that I never thought I’d do! Highly recommend buying some rice wine at the homestay for the rest of the trip as well as it was delicious. Kinabatangan river and Sepilok were also great fun, and we particular liked the night walk in Sepilok, but do expect to be with other tourists the whole time. Worth noting that Alister’s relaxed attitude at the sanctuaries was massively appreciated as he didn’t have us rushing around like we saw other tour groups do. Thirdly, the accommodation - this was probably the one thing we were a bit concerned about but turned out, our fears were unfounded. All of the accommodation was fine - not amazing, but completely adequate and in line with what is advertised. We always had our own room as a couple (we had thought we might be in a dorm for the homestay) and although we didn’t have the best quality sleep over the week, it really didn’t matter as we were kept busy with activities, plus there were plenty of opportunities for naps. Make sure you bring earplugs and an eye mask and you’ll be fine. Fourthly, food - this ranged across the week a little bit, with the best food being the home cooked food at the homestay (you also get to join in as part of a cooking class!) and on the island, and the average food being that which was served buffet style at Kinabatangan river, but there were always plenty of options and I personally enjoyed every meal. If you’re still wondering as to whether or not to book this trip, hopefully this review persuades you to do so!

- Spring 2026
Spring offers ideal weather for active tours in Borneo, with less rain and comfortable temperatures. Our guided Mt Kinabalu climbs are consistently rated as trip highlights by travelers who take on this challenging two-day trek. The Sabah journeys combine quality time watching orangutans at Sepilok, boat trips to see proboscis monkeys and also nights in jungle lodges where gibbon calls wake you at sunrise. What makes these tours special is how they blend wildlife experiences with cultural elements - you'll visit traditional longhouses and meet locals running conservation projects.

- Summer 2026
Summer tours pair you with expert naturalist guides who know the best spots for wildlife watching in Borneo. You'll spend dedicated time at Sepilok meeting orangutans, visiting the sun bear center and also joining night walks to find nocturnal species. Many clients add time on Manukan Island for coral reef snorkeling and beach relaxation. The premium routes include stays at Mulu National Park in forest bungalows - you can watch millions of bats emerge at dusk and explore some of Asia's most extensive cave networks.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall creates perfect conditions for deep-dive Borneo tours. Our premium packages start in Kuching exploring the food markets and local cuisine before taking longboat rides down the Delok River to swim at hidden waterfalls. Many travelers tell us their favorite experiences come from staying with Iban communities in traditional longhouses, sharing rice wine and learning about their customs. The wildlife viewing is excellent too - you'll meet orangutans at Sepilok, spot various monkeys and birds during river safaris and also track nocturnal creatures on guided night walks through the jungle.

- Winter 2026 / 2027
Winter in Malaysia brings excellent conditions for our combination wildlife and culture tours. Starting in Kuala Lumpur, you'll join local guides for heritage walks before heading to Malacca where river cruises let you explore the old town and local food scene. Many travelers choose to visit the Cameron Highlands, where cooler temperatures make it perfect for wandering tea plantations and mossy forest trails. The village homestays in Tambatuon are a real highlight - you'll cook with local families and experience genuine Dusun hospitality. Wildlife viewing along the Kinabatangan River works especially well in winter; the clear skies make it easier to spot animals during early morning and evening river safaris.
