Budget Tours & Trips to Kenya And Tanzania Reviews
- Serengeti & Kilimanjaro
The Serengeti half of the trip was great. Except there were three bus days where nothing really happened. Some included activities on these days would be great. For the Kilimanjaro part. It was all done in a bit of rush. Was made to feel like I was slowing things down if I stopped for a picture or to have some water. Also, seems to be a lack of concern over health worries. Just being told you're fine is nice, but a bit more of an actual check would have been nice.
- 10 Days Kenya and Tanzania Adventure
Our tour was absolutely fantastic! Many thanks to our wonderful travel manager Nancy, who managed to take into account our vision of what this tour should look like. She was with us every step of the way, we could count on her 24/7 in case of any emergencies or unresolved questions. Our tour included such amazing spots as Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli Park, which we travelled to with our amazing drive guide Kaka! (He's an absolute best!) The way Nancy came up with the curriculum of the trip it was quite easy to follow the schedule from day to day, and we managed to see the BIG FIVE and SO MUCH MORE! I am forever grateful for her talent, skills, hospitality and overall generosity which made this journey unforgettable!
- Nairobi to Zanzibar: Serengeti & Sunsets
This tour was absolutely amazing! Our tour guide Moses was amazing! He was so knowledgeable about the animals and his enthusiasm was infectious!!!! We saw so many animals on Safari that here I am 3 weeks out and still posting pics from that trip! Then we got to Zanzibar where Dulah took over and shared about the history and culture of Zanzibar and Stone town!!! This was amazing, good bang for the buck!
What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Kenya and Tanzania
What are the best budget-friendly areas to visit in Kenya and Tanzania?
Kenya and Tanzania offer several affordable alternatives to their popular safari destinations. Lake Nakuru National Park Tarangire National Park and the Usambara Mountains give visitors close encounters with wildlife and local cultures at lower prices than the Serengeti or Masai Mara. Budget accommodations like Lenchada Camp in Masai Mara and AA Lodge in Amboseli provide comfortable stays without the premium price tag. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The less touristy areas like Tarangire and Usambara Mountains were highlights - we saw plenty of wildlife but paid much less than in the popular parks."
When is the most affordable time to visit Kenya and Tanzania?
Travel during March-May and November-December to find the best deals. These rainy seasons bring lower rates in places like Masai Mara and Serengeti with many lodges reducing prices by up to 30%. AA Lodge Mara for example offers significant discounts during these months. A TourRadar traveler shared: "We went during November and while there was some rain we still saw amazing wildlife and saved considerably on our trip costs."
What meals are typically included in budget safari packages?
Budget safaris generally cover three daily meals. Breakfast at camp features continental options while lunch comes packed for game drives. Dinner is served at your accommodation. Budget locations like Miti Mingi Eco Camp in Masai Mara and Seronera Campsite in Serengeti serve basic but satisfying food. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Food was surprisingly good at the camps - lots of local dishes and always plenty to eat though don't expect luxury cuisine."
Are entrance fees to national parks included in budget safari packages?
Most budget packages cover the major park entrance costs including Masai Mara (USD 80 per day) Serengeti (USD 70 per day) and Ngorongoro Crater (USD 70 per day). Extra activities such as Maasai village visits (USD 20) or balloon safaris (USD 380) cost extra. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "All park fees were included which was great since they're quite expensive though we paid extra for the cultural visits."
What type of transportation is used for budget safaris between Kenya and Tanzania?
Safari vans with pop-up roofs serve as the main transport in Kenya while 4x4 Land Cruisers take over in Tanzania. Shuttle services handle border crossings at places like Namanga or Isebania. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The vehicles were basic but functional - we had a van in Kenya then switched to a more rugged 4x4 in Tanzania which was necessary for the terrain."
How much additional money should I budget for non-included meals and drinks?
Set aside USD 20-30 daily for extra food and drinks. While basic meals come with most budget safaris extras like bottled water (USD 1-2) sodas (USD 1-2) and alcoholic drinks (USD 3-5) need separate budgeting. At places like Venus Premier Hotel in Arusha or Best Western Plus in Nairobi meals cost around USD 10-15. A TourRadar traveler suggested: "Budget about USD 25 daily for drinks and snacks - most main meals were included but beverages were always extra."
