10 Day Spain Itinerary, incl. Madrid and Barcelona
Spanish heritage comes alive through 8 cities, covering 1,200km from Madrid to Barcelona and back. Visit UNESCO sites including Córdoba's Mosque-Cathedral and Granada's Alhambra. Stay at selected hotels like Rafael Atocha Madrid and Melia Lebreros Seville.

- Days 1-2
Madrid
Start in Madrid in the afternoon to skip the morning rush hour traffic from the airport. Take an evening illuminations tour to see Plaza Mayor and other landmarks. A helpful tip from a visitor: "Get to Plaza Mayor before 8 PM - the tapas bars fill up quickly and you'll have trouble finding a seat after that." Visit Puerta del Sol and the Cibeles Fountain early in the morning before the tour buses arrive.

- Day 3
Mérida & Seville
Take the 4-hour bus ride from Madrid to Mérida to see its Roman Theater. One visitor notes: "The Roman ruins were incredible, but bring water and a hat - there's very little shade." Head to Seville in the afternoon. Book your dinner spots ahead of time since the best tapas bars in Santa Cruz fill up fast.

- Day 4
Seville
Start at the Cathedral when it opens at 8:30 AM to avoid crowds. You can take a boat trip on the Guadalquivir River, but one visitor suggests: "The river cruise is quite basic - consider using that time to explore more of the Santa Cruz quarter instead." For the evening flamenco show, get there 30 minutes early for good seats near the stage.

- Day 5
Córdoba & Granada
- Day 6
Granada to Valencia
- Days 7-8
Valencia to Barcelona
See Valencia's old town and City of Arts and Sciences in the morning before driving 4 hours to Barcelona. Plan your Barcelona visit carefully. One traveler warns: "You must book Sagrada Familia tickets weeks in advance. Don't expect to just walk up and get in." Start your full day at Park Güell before the crowds arrive.

- Days 9-10
Zaragoza & Madrid
10 Day Northern Spain Itinerary, incl. Barcelona and Santiago de Compostela
Northern Spain unfolds from Barcelona to Santiago de Compostela. Highlights include La Boqueria Market, Laguardia's wine caves, San Sebastian's cooking classes, and Picos de Europa National Park, with 9 nights in local hotels.

- Days 1-2
Barcelona
Explore the Gothic Quarter's narrow medieval streets and excellent tapas bars. Visit La Boqueria Market early (before 8:30 AM) to avoid crowds and shop alongside locals. Book a paella cooking class well in advance if visiting during peak season. Want to avoid the crowds? Skip La Rambla during midday and visit early morning or evening instead.

- Day 3
Logrono
Take a 3.5-hour train to La Rioja's capital. The medieval center buzzes with activity at night along Calle del Laurel with its 60+ tapas bars. Visit the local market in the morning for regional specialties. Remember to pack light since you'll need to carry your luggage up and down train station stairs.

- Days 4-5
San Sebastian
A 2-hour bus ride takes you to this coastal food haven. Take a pintxos tour through Old Town's traditional bars near Plaza de la Constitución. Learn Basque cooking in a morning class. Bring good walking shoes as streets can be slippery when wet. Most traditional restaurants close between lunch and dinner (3-8 PM).

- Day 6
Bilbao & Picos de Europa
- Days 7-8
Oviedo
- Days 9-10
Santiago de Compostela

A recent visitor said: "Getting to the Egyptian Debod Temple for sunset was a highlight—the golden light over Madrid is incredible, but bring a light jacket as evenings can be cool."

- Days 3-4
Seville
Take a morning train from Madrid to Cordoba (2.5 hours) to see the Mezquita mosque-cathedral. Visit between 2-4 PM when it's less crowded. Then continue to Seville for two nights. What people love about 10-day Spain tours
- Discovery of Spain - 10 days
1) Very good tour guides 2) Good tours provided at major sites 3) Bus rides way too long between cities. This prevented us from having much time at all IN THOSE CITIES. High-speed trains should have been used instead. We spent two 6 hour bus rides, and two 3 hour bus rides getting to these places. VERY little time to see these places. 4) A BIG faux-pas was not letting people know ahead of time (like when they booked this tour) that they should have ordered online tickets for a number of sites in Barcelona, particularly. A number of folks didn't get to view the inside of the Sagrada Familia, which we only did because we ordered those tickets months ago. There are no physical lines for alot of these sites...only online tickets, which some older people don't know how to do. 5) You shouldn't pair English speaking tourists with Spanish ones. The guides had to recite things to us in both languages, which was frustrating for them and us, and some confusion occurred, as well. Time spent inside of these sites was wasted with the English/Spanish translations. We'd rather have been looking around at other things than waiting for our English version. 6) Another BIG faux-pas that happened: We who flew in from the U.S. were NOT met at the airport tour pick up area by our "Click Tours" operators! We had to ask around the various pickup bus drivers to see who was go aing to take us. We discovered that the pickup drivers were from a Puerto Rican tour company (forgotten the name) connected to TourRadar, not Click Tours. We almost had to get a taxi for the long ride into Madrid to our hotel because we didn't know Click Tours would not be listed on our trip! Luckily, several of our family spoke Spanish and found out who to go with, but this was a bad way to start our tour with you.
- Northern Spain Real Food Adventure
Above and beyond my expectations, and a very good guide,
- Camino de Santiago Encompassed
The tour met all my expectations and the guide went above and beyond expectations to ensure everyones needs were met and that the tour was a positive experience.
