I loved this tour and definitely have picked out some others to go on soon! Be prepared for long bus rides and smallish accomodations occasionally, but going in knowing this, you will really enjoy.Talk to your bus mates as well, they are there to meet new people as well as enjoy the sites.I regret I did not do this more consistently early on.I met the greatest people of my life on this holiday! Including Beth the phenomenal and fun Aussie tour guide and Stephen our first driver, what a sweet, sweet man!!

Best time to visit England and Scotland
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Britain has its own special feel, especially in the historic cities. The Scottish Highland routes adapt nicely to shorter days by mixing in whisky distillery visits and trips to places like Stirling Castle. If you're traveling during Christmas, you'll find festive markets in Glasgow and can spend Christmas Day in Edinburgh - our customers love the traditional lunch and walks through Dean Village. Over in the Lake District, you can take a winter cruise on Windermere and warm up after with proper fish and chips. The cozy evenings in old pubs are a highlight, and our guides are really good at working with the limited daylight hours to make sure you see everything.

- Spring 2026
Spring lets us really showcase Britain's landscapes when the days get longer. Our routes take in York's medieval walls, Durham Cathedral and Edinburgh's narrow closes. Many tours stop at St Andrews where you can walk along West Sands Beach - yes, that's the one from 'Chariots of Fire.' The Lake District is at its best in spring; you'll see Wordsworth's inspiration spots while wildflowers cover the hillsides. One of our most popular options mixes city visits with countryside exploration, including special access to Irish horse breeding farms and traditional honey makers.

- Summer 2026
These comprehensive circuits through Britain and Ireland shine brightest in summer, with popular tours spanning 10-15 days and making the most of extended daylight hours. You'll find evenings perfect for wandering Edinburgh's Royal Mile, followed by leisurely dinners in heritage properties. Our travelers tell us they appreciate the two-night stays in key spots, particularly in the Lake District when wildflowers blanket the hills in vibrant colors. The guides thoughtfully adjust to summer conditions, planning castle explorations during cool mornings and boat excursions on Loch Ness in the warm afternoon sun. The social atmosphere comes alive in the mild summer evenings, as visitors join traditional ceilidh dances in Edinburgh, share travel tales in Liverpool pubs and discover local culture. Extended tours include exclusive summer access to Buckingham Palace state rooms, private evening visits to Edinburgh Castle and also special cultural experiences. The timing lets you experience Edinburgh's festival season, visit traditional honey farms in Ireland, all while taking in those distinctive long Nordic twilights that make British summers so special.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn tours give you great value since the big attractions are less crowded. Several routes head north from London through Cambridge's colleges before reaching Edinburgh's UNESCO-listed streets. Our travelers often tell us how much they love the autumn colors around Loch Ness and the Highlands, where you'll get castle visits and boat trips on the mysterious loch. Some routes go into Wales, where we've got special Dr Who walking tours through Cardiff. It's perfect timing for mixing outdoor activities - like Snowdonia hikes - with cultural visits to Liverpool's Beatles sites and Oxford's ancient university.

What's the best way to combine England and Scotland into one trip?
Many travelers love taking the train between London and Edinburgh - it's honestly one of the most scenic and relaxing ways to connect these two incredible cities. You'll get to watch the British countryside roll by your window while traveling efficiently between destinations. The popular 10-Day United Kingdom and Ireland tour uses these train connections and lets you soak in both capitals plus everything in between. The journey becomes part of the experience as you wind through picturesque landscapes connecting these historic nations.
How can I experience Scotland's famed Highlands beyond bustling cities?
The Scottish Highlands are super accessible from Edinburgh and Glasgow with coach tours that'll take you right into the heart of this dramatic landscape. You'll get to explore iconic spots like Loch Ness and Glen Coe where the scenery just takes your breath away - perfect for hikers and nature lovers. If you're feeling independent rent a car and tackle the North Coast 500 at your own pace. The Highland Fling tour is a great 5-day option that covers the highlights including Loch Ness Glenfinnan Viaduct and Glencoe with enough time to really soak in those Highland views.
Which local traditions can visitors participate in during their England and Scotland travels?
You'll want to experience a traditional Scottish ceilidh while you're in the Highlands - these lively gatherings in local pubs are where you'll find authentic folk music energetic dancing and chances to chat with friendly locals. Down in England afternoon tea is an absolute must-do with proper scones clotted cream and dainty finger sandwiches served in charming tea rooms across the country. The 10-Day United Kingdom tour includes a fantastic ceilidh experience in Oban that really lets you dive into Scottish culture.
Are there less crowded alternatives to popular attractions in England and Scotland?
Skip the crowds at Edinburgh Castle and head to Stirling Castle instead - you'll get amazing views and fascinating historical exhibits without the tourist crush. In England try visiting the Castlerigg Stone Circle in the Lake District rather than battling the masses at Stonehenge. It's just as mysterious and beautiful but way more peaceful. The Walk the North West Highlands and Skye tour actually includes Stirling Castle as a highlight giving you that perfect mix of history and breathing room.
