Middle East Tours & Trips

Jerusalem hits different when you're walking those ancient streets yourself. Float in the Dead Sea (seriously, you can't sink), explore Petra's rock-cut facades, and cruise down the Nile like people have done for centuries. The Middle East has this way of making history feel real instead of just something from a textbook.

Overall it was a great experience. Minor hiccups like terrible hotel like Seanet and we had a blood sucking tour guide during the cruise on the river nile. All he wanted was to try to rush through the itenaries as quickly as possible and wanted us to do other optional tours so he can make more money. Some of the itenaries were missed because he said they were extras and we needed to pay for them. He even asked at the beginning of the cruise whether we were responsible to pay for the entry fees for the sites we were visiting. Not impressed with him. However, from tel aviv to Jordan to Cairo Egypt the guides were great and professional and courteous. Airport transfers and pick-ups were great. Overall it was a wonderful trip. No regret. Thank you!

PROS: Guides in all three countries were extremely knowledgeable and gave interesting incites to history of sites that were visited. All of ancient sites listed were visited on tour. Enough time was given at each place. Hotels were clean and staff helpful. Included breakfasts were large and plentiful buffets. NEUTRAL: People on tour were from multiple tour companies so that as trip progressed new people joined as others left tour. Only a few people were booked on my particular tour. Tour buses were comfortable and stopped often enough for bathroom breaks. CONS: Because of people being on different tours with different companies very few were staying at the same hotel. This meant that starting at 7 am people were picked up at various hotels around the city. It took from one to three hours to pick up all the people so that if yours was the first hotel pickup...you spent hours as others were picked up. The same applied at the end of the day. Crossing a large city, such as Tel Aviv or Cairo took the same one to three hours of drop off time. This additional time meant less sleep and more frustration for tour members. Because of these long days little time was left at the end of the day for nighttime viewing of the cities or shopping for souvenirs. The only times for shopping were those included in the tours by the tour companies at stores with which they had an affiliation. These were places to purchase herbs and teas; olive wood curios; and oils and perfumes. DO NOT buy from the "Egyptian Perfume Giza". The $100 you spend on a bottle of "perfume" (which has been securely shrink wrapped-supposedly to keep it from leaking in your suitcase on the way home) turns out to be a barely scented oil when opened upon your return home.

    Rochelle traveled in April

    4.0
Overall, it was an amazing trip for our group of 4 to see all the historical landmarks that we'd only read about in books or seen on TV. Once we arrived at our desintations, the tours were informative and well organized. However, the logistics when transferring across borders into another country to get to our next destination need to be greatly improved. We had problems during both of the border transfers. First, between Israel and Jordan, the Jordanian representative named Ramses was not there to meet us. He finally showed up about 30 minutes late. We prepaid Booking Tours for our Visas, so we would not have to worry about getting them ourselves; however, Ramses did not have any information about us and did not have any information about our Visas. This delayed us even longer, because he had to take time to straighten everything out with his company. When he finally got everything straightened out and we got to the tour bus, some of the other customers on the bus awaiting the tour were yelling at us because we were late and were holding up the tour. I spoke with another tour attendee on the bus and she said that they were told that our group was late, and that's why the tour was delayed. In other words, the company blamed us for being late, when we were actually right on time as scheduled. Someone from the tour company dropped the ball when processing our information for the Visas, which Ramses had to straighten out. That's why we were late. I thought it was very unprofessional for them to blame us for the delay when it was really the company's error. This was very stressful at the border crossing, and also while traveling on the bus with people that held hard feelings towards us for something that was not our fault. During the second border crossing between Israel and Egypt, again there was no representative to meet us in Egypt. We tried to explain to the officials there that we were waiting for our tour representative Stenoude who would have our Visas, but still they tried to get us to pay for the Visas AGAIN. When Stenoude finally showed up about 40 minutes late, he said that he was waiting for us outside and taking care of another tour group. It doesn't make sense that he was waiting outside for us, since we couldn't exit without our Visas! This was another very stressful incident. As I mentioned, once we arrived at our destinations, everything moved a lot more smoothly. Tours in Israel were wonderful. The schedules were very punctual and the tour guides were so kind, patient and knowledgeable. If you are lucky enough to get Aviva, Liat, or MIchael, you will not be disappointed! They were outstanding tour guides! In Egypt, our driver Abbas and our tour guide Nassir were the absolute BEST! The streets of Cairo are pure chaos, but Abbas got us everywhere we needed to go and picked us up right on time everytime! Nassir had so much knowledge to share! He was kind, funny, patient and shares so much information. He took pictures for us and even suggested fun shots! He taylored our schedules to spend time doing the things we wanted to do. I highly recommend him to anyone visiting Cairo! For anyone that may be thinking of taking this trip, be aware there may be some issues during the border crossings. It may be a little scary, and people will try to pressure you into giving them money, but be firm and let them know that you are waiting for a tour representative (try to have his name) and that he has your Visa. Once you get to your destinations, you will have an amazing time.
