This review is about a 7-day river cruise, not a guided tour. The Moselle River is a scenic delight, with vineyard-covered hillsides, charming villages, castles and chateaux. Our boat was the A-Rosa Silva. About 180 passengers. All meals buffet style. We ate very well. The wines included in Premium all-inclusive were mediocre. We knew from a previous A-Rosa cruise that most passengers are German and non English speaking. We missed not having anyone to talk with other than one couple with whom we sometimes shared a table at meal times. The boat did not have very effective AC. The dining room could get pretty uncomfortable. We sometimes took our plates up on deck, and that was lovely. We learned to keep our cabin shades down and curtains closed during the day when we were on the sunny side.

We appreciated that we were well informed as to where our ship would be rocked on the day of embarkation. We also were notified of changes to our itinerary, because of river closures because of river closure, due to annual upkeep. I was not clearly informed that wifi was not included in my plan. That was very inconvenient. I would have liked to be given the opportunity to decide to include that in my package, even though it may have meant an extra cost. The Amadeus Star crew were magnificent! Arno, the cruise director, orchestrated the tour through the many unexpected changes that were cause by no fault of theirs. He quickly made alterations to the itinerary, that I am sure we’re very difficult for him to do, but we’re pulled off seamlessly. We passengers were shielded from the stress that would have been invoked in last minute changes to the schedule and instead we’re allied to enjoy a stress free vacation. All of the staff we very friendly and and helpful. I have endless examples, but for the sake of time I will just mention a few of the people who stood out to me. Elvira, was so welcoming and warm. She alway was available for the passengers and paid close attention to the small details, that personalized our cruise experience and made us feel important. Carlin our main server in the dining room was so efficient and friendly and funny. We loved him and it was sad to say goodbye to him and his team on the last morning of our cruise. Our cabin attendant was the invisible fairy who would clean and pick up after us everyday. When we passed him in the hall, he always greeted us with a smile. On our anniversary and on my husbands birthday, he mad beautiful towel sculptures and left them to greet us, in our cabin, at the end of the day. There are so many examples I could share, but suffice it to say that because of the wonderful crew on the Amadeus Star, our cruise experience will remain an amazing memory for us to keep and share! - Summer 2026
Summer opens every possible way to explore the Moselle. The river cruises hit that sweet spot between comfort and cultural immersion - you can relax on deck as castles drift past, then step ashore to wander through Trier's Roman ruins or join a local mustard-making workshop in one of the valley's historic mills. Our bike-and-barge tours are particularly popular; customers love cycling through vineyards and medieval villages by day, then returning to a comfortable boat each evening. Many trips include nice touches like castle concerts and private tastings at family wineries. The guides get loads of praise for pointing out those local details you'd probably miss on your own.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn puts the Moselle's wine heritage front and center. The Rhine-Moselle combination cruises time their visits perfectly for harvest festivals in Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem and other wine towns. Our guests love watching the grape harvest from deck, then heading into centuries-old cellars for tastings. The cycling tours work brilliantly in autumn too - the paths are quieter and you'll find plenty of village wine festivals to stop at. Many routes include walks through working vineyards where you can chat with families who've been making wine here for generations. The evening entertainment gets great feedback, with local musicians coming aboard and special harvest dinners featuring regional dishes and also wines.

- Spring 2027
The Moselle really comes alive in spring, especially for river cruises and cycling trips. Setting off from Luxembourg, you can join guided vineyard walks before the summer crowds arrive, plus hop on a bike between villages whenever you feel like stretching your legs. Our travelers often tell us how magical it is watching the morning mist lift off the river, slowly revealing those medieval castles and terraced vineyards. Some clever routes mix Amsterdam's tulip season with Moselle wine country, giving you both Dutch gardens and German wines in one go. We've found the smaller ships work perfectly this time of year - they can pull right into the heart of towns like Cochem and Bernkastel-Kues, where you'll meet fewer tourists than in peak months.
