- 4-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – Small Group + Vistadome
Spectacular! From start to finish everything was clear and well organized. Pick up went as planned and the ride was comfortable, the company also stored the rest of our stuff. We were given duffle bags for things that we didn't want or need in our day backs and those were carried by amazing porters, more on them later. We also rented sleeping bags, inflatable pads and tracking poles -everything was in very good condition and served us well. The food throughout the whole trek was just out of this world. I don't know how they managed to cook such an wholesome dishes in conditions that one finds on a hike, but it was incredible, from traditional Peruvian soups, ceviche to cakes (yes, that's right). The guides were always helpful, cheerful and ready to say something interesting. Porters were supporting and the service they provide is unbelievable, we didn't worry about anything (and there is a lot of things to worry about/they provide: food, camps, water, tents and other facilities), because we knew that we can rely on them. We got to see sooo many lovely views, animals, plants and history, while hiking safely and supporting the local people. Inca trail is hard but so worth it. Thank you Trexperience for a chance to be a part of this.

Unforgettable experience with Peru Top Experience My husband Jorge and I did the 4-day Inca Trail with Peru Top Experience and it was amazing! The guides were knowledgeable and kind, the food was delicious, and everything was perfectly organized. Reaching Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate was magical. Highly recommended!
What our customers ask about Machu Picchu Family Tours & Vacation Packages
What's the ideal duration for a family trip to Machu Picchu?
A 6-7 day visit to Machu Picchu provides families enough time to explore at a relaxed pace and adjust to the altitude. The schedule typically breaks down into 2-3 days in Cusco for acclimatization followed by 2 days in the Sacred Valley exploring key sites like Chinchero and Ollantaytambo and a full day dedicated to Machu Picchu itself. A recent TourRadar traveler noted: "The 7 day itinerary was perfect - we had time to adjust to the altitude and really experience the culture while keeping the kids engaged with varied activities each day." Family accommodations like Casa Andina in Sacred Valley or Tierra Viva in Cusco work well for 3-4 night stays.
What's the best time of year to visit Machu Picchu with children?
The dry season from April to October offers the most reliable conditions for family visits to Machu Picchu with June through August being particularly favorable. Daytime temperatures hover around 68°F (20°C) and the paths stay mostly dry. The Sacred Valley maintains warmer temperatures than Cusco making outdoor activities more enjoyable. Families should avoid the rainy season from December to March when slick trails can challenge young visitors. A TourRadar traveler shared: "We had spectacular weather during our June visit making it perfect for exploring with the kids."
What are the best family-friendly activities around Machu Picchu?
The Machu Picchu region offers numerous activities that keep children engaged while learning about Inca culture. The Yucay Museum of Living Culture lets kids interact with llamas and alpacas while Chinchero provides demonstrations of traditional textile weaving. Archaeological sites throughout the area serve as open-air classrooms. A TourRadar traveler commented: "The visit to the Inca museum was fascinating with a great variety of things to see and learn about the Incas." Family-focused hotels like Golden Sunrise in Aguas Calientes and Ayni Cusco Hotel provide convenient bases with child-friendly amenities.
How should families prepare children for the altitude in Machu Picchu?
Proper altitude adjustment requires several days in Cusco (11152 ft) before visiting Machu Picchu (7972 ft). The first day should focus on rest hydration with water and coca tea and light meals. Start with easier activities in the Sacred Valley before tackling Machu Picchu. One TourRadar traveler advised: "Upon arrival is recommended to rest for few hours drink coca tea and eat lightly. The two days before the trek were important to acclimatize." Parents should watch children closely for altitude sickness symptoms and adjust plans accordingly.
What are the accommodation options for families in Machu Picchu and surrounding areas?
The region offers accommodations suited to different family needs and budgets. Aguas Calientes features the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel with nature programs and roomy quarters. The Sacred Valley's Casa Andina Premium Valle provides family rooms and outdoor spaces. In Cusco the Hilton Garden Inn offers a central location with modern comforts while the upscale Aranwa Cusco Boutique features connecting rooms and special children's amenities.
