We have used Touradar many times with very good value for money. The Morocco tour was excellent, good hotels and food. We felt safe and had no issues with language or customs. The country is vast, so expect long drives between stopping points. Guides were very good and knowledgeable.
Imperial Cities & Sahara Discovery Tour from Marrakech - K

We did the 13 day tour which included Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangiers, Rabat, Fez, many villages, the Atlas Mountains & Sahara desert. The days were very busy, with a lot to see. The itinerary was followed (with some small modifications). We asked to start the tour in Casablanca, and added Days 1 & 2 to the end of the tour. The tour agency was very helpful in arranging this. ORGANIZATION: Our group ranged from 4-14 people, according to where we were. In some cases additional people were present just for the day tour. Overall the tour was well organized. However in many cases we would only be advised the evening before of our pickup time the next day-several times we had the wrong pickup info as a consequence. It would be better if we were given info more in advance. HOTELS: All the hotels (other than the Delarosa in Marrakech) were not the ones indicated in the brochure. However all were of comparable price and quality. GUIDES: All the guides were excellent with respect to their knowledge & enthusiasm. We would like to acknowledge all of them: CASABLANCA Driver Mehdi, Guide Sila TANGIER Driver Nor, Guide Mohammed CHEFCHAOUEN Driver Nor, Guide Abdul RABAT Driver Adnan (for 5 days), Guide (1 day) Isham VOLUBILIS Guide Abdul FES Guide Rashid TINGHIT Guide Jamal MEZOUGHA Camel guide Hussain ATLAS FILM STUDIOS Guide Brad Pitt MARRAKESH Guide Hachim. There were many sites to see, and in some cases we ran out of time, or finished too late in the day. In retrospect, it would have been helpful if the guides had explained what we were doing that day & explained the timeline so we could adapt. FOOD: All hotels had a generous breakfast buffet included. The food was excellent and varied. Lunch & dinner was paid by us. A MAJOR COMPLAINT WAS THE INSISTENCE OF EVERY GUIDE TO TAKE US TO THEIR CHOSEN RESTAURANT. In spite of our REPEATED REQUESTS for small lunches (sandwich style), every guide insisted on taking us to a certain (a friend’s?) restaurant that had a set tourist menu for a full meal, and in most cases, had NO PRICES on the menu. A menu without prices is a warning signal for “overpriced- tourist beware”. And given that every guide did the same, clearly this is a common practice. This is the ONLY MAJOR COMPLAINT WE HAD FOR THE TOUR. BUT IT WAS CONSISTENTLY FRUSTRATING. OVERALL RATING: 8.5/10

The tour was absolutely fantastic! It ended up being just me and my guide, Houssain, which made the experience even more personal and enjoyable. I went into the trip with no particular expectations, but it turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever had. Everything was smooth, relaxed, and well-organized. The food was incredible, the people were warm and genuinely hospitable, and the entire experience was both memorable and truly delightful. I look forward to going back and learn more.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
The Imperial Cities tour really hits its stride from November through February - our TourRadar customers tell us they particularly enjoy exploring Fes medina without the intense heat. The winter desert camping needs proper layers, but you'll be rewarded with exceptionally clear night skies for stargazing. Several tours blend time in Chefchaouen's blue streets with desert exploration, and the views of snowy Atlas Mountains against golden dunes make for fantastic photos. Our guides know exactly when to time the desert portions and they'll make sure you're set up right for those cool desert nights - temperatures can really drop after sunset.

Many opt for tours linking the Sahara experience with stops in Tangier, Chefchaouen and also the Rif Mountains, where hiking conditions hit their sweet spot. The autumn-like temperatures work perfectly for both walking ancient medinas and desert camping – you'll spend cool mornings wandering souks, afternoons climbing kasbahs and evenings watching sunset from camelback. Our travelers tell us they particularly enjoy exploring Fes medina without intense heat, while getting fantastic photos of snowy Atlas Mountains contrasting against golden dunes. What's Better - Private or Group Tours in the Sahara?
You know both options are great just in different ways. Private tours give you that freedom to do things your way you can spend extra time at spots like those amazing pink dunes in Merzouga or plan your own adventure. Take that 7 Days Tour from Marrakech it lets you do cool stuff like hiking Jebel Toubkal with your own guide. Now group tours they're different but just as good really - you get to meet other travelers and split the costs which is nice. These usually follow a set route hitting those must-see places like Ait Ben Haddou that incredible UNESCO site where they filmed Gladiator. The Moroccan Desert Adventure tour takes you there plus gets you up on a camel which is pretty special.
When's Really the Best Time to Visit the Sahara?
Spring and fall are your sweet spots for desert exploring you'll avoid that brutal summer heat and those cold winter nights. One traveler David Gustafson mentioned some hotels can get pretty noisy during his 13-day tour so choosing where you stay matters. Spring's actually amazing with wildflowers popping up everywhere and perfect weather for hiking through Todra Gorge or checking out the Draa Valley like on that Cycle Morocco tour. Fall's fantastic too especially for stargazing and camel rides through the Erg Chebbi dunes just ask Laurence Roque who did a 7-day tour with his wife.
What Local Traditions Can You Experience in the Sahara?
The culture here is just incredible really deep in Berber traditions from the music to crafts everything. You can get right into it at places like Tawesna Teahouse near Ait Benhaddou where local women share stories over tea and treats that's part of the Sahara Mini Adventure tour. Sleeping in a desert camp is something else you get traditional music amazing food and this incredible starry sky above you. The 5-day Sahara Fun tour does this really well. You can even meet nomadic families and see how they live which lots of travelers love on those Cultural Morocco tours or that 6-Day Camel Trekking experience.
