Central Asia Tours & Trips

Picture yourself strolling through Ashgabat, its streets a gleaming expanse of marble, the buildings a brilliant white under the relentless desert sun. Behold the Darvaza Gas Crater, also known as the "Door to Hell," a perpetual inferno that comes alive at twilight. Wander through the ancient remnants and mosques of Khiva, a city that has stood the test of time. In Bukhara, a former center for Silk Road trade, admire the historic landmarks, their surfaces decorated with elaborate mosaics.

A fantastic experience, great sights, guides, hotels and restaurant suggestions. Highly recommended for a relatively fast paced trip through Central Asia. Having a local guide in each country added to the experience and information sharing. More time in Kazakhstan would have been great but reflects the distances needed to be travelled and an already full programme.
Central Asia Combined Silk Road Tour

The various activities were a good mixture of history, nature, culture, and points of interest. The guides in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan were excellent. They could explain more than the scheduled itinerary and enjoyed helping us learn about their countries. The wedding ceremony in Turkmenistan was a fun evening. After arriving in Uzbekistan, we created a What's App and this was critical in sharing information. The evening at the Registan Square was special. We then enjoyed going back the following morning to see the complex. The day trip to Tajikistan was too long as we returned to the hotel after 10 pm without supper. The guide in Tajikistan was very good but miscalculated the time available for the tour. The meal provided by the tour in Tajikistan was good and we were glad not to have to change currency The bus in Kyrgyzstan was uncomfortable, the guide was separated from the tour guests, and the microphone did not always work. As we could not hear the guide, we gave up asking questions. We drove long periods without information on the countryside. We were disappointed that we did not get to learn about the curlture of the Kyrgyz people. We enjoyed being able to travel by train with its scenic sights and two flights to cut down on travel time. We also asked to arrive to Issyk-Kul by mid-afternoon and we did. This allowed us to go the the beach. Most of us went swimming and enjoyed the bar. However, the resort lost electricity creating challenges. We all enjoyed having transportation from the Ashgabat airport and to the Almaty airport. This certainly reduced stress. We were also pleased with the hotel accomodations and the good breakfasts (except for the day we had a meager sack breakfast). However, there was no farewell event, which was unfortunate.

This trip with Penguin Travel thru Central Asia exceeding our expectations. The itinerary was well paced, diverse and covered a large area. Well planned and kept on track by our tour leader Stoyan. We were well informed of what each day would hold, border crossings, money exchange and options for our free time. He was the glue that kept the tour on track. 🙏🙏
