France and Germany Tours & Trips
Picture cruising past castles every few kilometers. Marksburg and Reichsburg offer more than you can count. Colmar becomes a Christmas card come December, Strasbourg's cathedral soars in Gothic glory, and Heidelberg Castle holds that giant wine barrel everyone photographs. Amsterdam's canals catch sunset light beautifully, and check out the Black Forest for actual cuckoo clocks. And don’t forget chic Paris and all its wonders.

The cruise was great - the dinner did not start until at least 7:30 pm. That was too late for us as it usually didn';t finish until about 9 then right to bed as our days were long and busy. Wish there was the option for an earlier dinner.

A great experience. Great value. Personnel very helpful and friendly. Cleanliness was great. Bar and wait staff attentive. Food was perhaps a little to salty to our liking, but otherwise good (four stars). House wine and draft beer were quite enjoyable. In all, the experience was better than expected, so who knows if we won’t take a different Crucevita cruise?

We enjoyed the New Year AMA cruise, especially the food, the pleasant ambiance on the boat and the friendly staff. Although the weather was not amazing, the organised trips were good and there was plenty of variety. The mixture of nationalities and age groups was a real bonus and we met many interesting people from all over the world. A better variety of evening entertainment would have made the experience even better. (For us ,too much loud music, especially on New Year’s Eve ,when we would have liked something rather more special than just a loud disco.) Generally though a very enjoyable experience to be recommended.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
The Rhine valley really comes alive during winter, especially on those December cruises between Basel and Amsterdam. You'll find Christmas markets filling the historic squares of every port town, where our travelers love browsing local crafts while warming up with cups of mulled wine. The winter tours include some special touches - there are evening concerts inside Strasbourg's Gothic cathedral and guided walks along Carcassonne's fortress walls when they're all lit up at night. One spot our customers always photograph is Colmar's old town, where the traditional half-timbered houses look particularly charming with a dusting of snow.

- Spring 2026
Spring is an ideal season for Rhine River journeys, with clear skies giving you perfect views of hilltop castles and noticeably fewer tourists in the riverside towns. Our travelers often gravitate towards tours that blend Amsterdam's tulip gardens in full bloom with laid-back cruises past medieval fortresses. Most spring itineraries mix guided walks through Colmar's historic center, Strasbourg's Petite France quarter and also free time to explore. You'll find 7-day routes linking Basel to Amsterdam at an easy pace, while 10-day options venture into the Black Forest, Alsace region and deeper local spots. The ships provide comfortable cabins with panoramic windows, and you'll enjoy regional wines paired with meals. What makes these spring trips special is the balance - you might spend your morning discovering Heidelberg Castle, then find a quiet spot to watch afternoon light dance across the vineyard slopes.

- Summer 2026
Summer brings long days perfect for outdoor exploring along these routes. The river cruises make great use of the extended daylight - starting with early walks through Amsterdam's quiet morning canals and ending with sunset drinks on deck as you pass the Lorelei Rock. Our travelers tell us they particularly enjoy tasting wines up in Rüdesheim's hillside vineyards, taking small boats through Strasbourg's flower-filled waterways and walking the cool paths of the Black Forest. The coach tours take full advantage of the nice weather too, with trips up to Heidelberg's castle by cable car and plenty of time in Baden-Baden's elegant gardens. You'll find our customers spending their free time at outdoor cafés in Lyon's old quarter and taking evening walks through Marseille's lively port area.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
The Rhine routes linking France and Germany shine during autumn's arrival, creating perfect touring conditions for multi-country exploration. Our most popular journey begins in Marseille, winds through Burgundy, Alsace and up into the Black Forest, with excellent timing for wine harvest celebrations in Beaune, Rüdesheim and other charming stops. Medieval towns like Colmar and Riquewihr become even more captivating against the backdrop of fall foliage, while cultural experiences range from underground art exhibitions at Carrières de Lumières to intimate cooking workshops in Strasbourg's premier kitchens. Autumn adds a special dimension to guided walks through Baden-Baden's parks, and canal tours in Strasbourg take on extra appeal as golden leaves reflect in the water. What sets these routes apart is their thoughtful balance of organized activities and free time, allowing travelers to discover local wine taverns and authentic restaurants at a relaxed pace during harvest time.

How do most people get between France and Germany these days?
The high-speed trains are definitely your best bet here - you've got the TGV in France and Deutsche Bahn in Germany running between major cities. They're fast comfortable and you get to enjoy some gorgeous views along the way. If you're planning to hop between multiple cities grab a Eurail pass it'll save you money and give you more flexibility.
Where can I experience that unique French-German cultural mix?
You'll love Alsace it's this fascinating region that's been passed between France and Germany through history. The local culture there is incredible - places like Riquewihr and Colmar have these beautiful colorful houses with timber frames and the food wow it's something special. Our travelers on the Catalonia and Black Forest route absolutely loved taking boat trips through Strasbourg's canals seeing all that unique architecture up close.
What are some amazing spots that aren't packed with tourists?
The Dordogne region in France is absolutely magical especially around Beynac where there's this stunning medieval castle right above the river. Over in Germany the Black Forest is just spectacular with its famous cuckoo clocks and incredible waterfalls. Actually our Spain Burgundy and Black Forest tour includes entry to Triberg Waterfalls and everyone always says it's a highlight.
What local foods should I definitely try while I'm there?
Oh you've got to try the Coq au Vin in Burgundy it's amazing and while you're in Paris the pastries are just incredible. Make sure you get to Bordeaux for the wines too. When you're in Germany head to Munich for proper Bavarian food like Schweinshaxe grab a beer in a traditional Biergarten and definitely explore all the different regional sausages they're all unique and delicious.
