7 Days in Amalfi Coast, incl. Sorrento and Capri

- Day 1
Naples to Sorrento via Pompeii
Land in Naples and head straight to Pompeii. Plan to arrive around 10 AM to beat the crowds and hot weather. A 2-hour guided tour will cover the main sites. One visitor shared: "The ruins of Pompeii are incredibly well-preserved. Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes—you'll be walking on uneven ancient streets." After Pompeii, it's a 1-hour drive to Sorrento where you'll spend your first night.
- Day 2
Amalfi Coast Drive
Take the scenic coastal road from Sorrento through Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. The full route with stops takes about 3 hours. Leave early before the roads get busy at 10 AM. Sit on the right side of the car for the best views. If you get carsick on winding roads, take some motion sickness medication before setting out.

Sorrento Cooking Experience
Start your day at Fattoria Terranova for a morning cooking class. You'll pick fresh herbs and learn to make pasta while enjoying beautiful views of the Bay of Naples. After lunch, spend your afternoon walking through Sorrento's historic center and Marina Grande.

Sorrento to Capri
Book an early morning ferry to Capri. The ride takes 30 minutes but afternoon trips sometimes get canceled in strong winds. When you arrive at Marina Grande, the port staff will handle your luggage transfer to your hotel.

Capri Exploration
Take a morning walk through Capri's streets. A recent visitor noted: "Walking through the Gardens of Augustus offered incredible views of the Faraglioni rocks—go before 11 AM when tour groups arrive." For more great views, take the chairlift up to Monte Solaro in Anacapri.

Capri By Sea
Spend your morning shopping on Via Camerelle or visiting the Blue Grotto. Get to the Blue Grotto early to avoid long lines. In the evening, take a boat tour around the island. Book a sunset trip that leaves 2 hours before sunset for the best light and calmer waters.

Capri to Naples
Take a morning ferry back to Naples. The journey takes about an hour. Book your flight home for the afternoon since morning traffic between the port and airport can be unpredictable. The airport transfer usually takes 30 minutes without traffic.

A previous visitor noted: "The central location saved us time and money on taxis, though the street noise takes getting used to." Plan Day 2 around Rome's main sites. Visit the Colosseum first to avoid midday heat in summer. Schedule the Vatican Museums for early afternoon when crowds are lighter. Your evening is free to discover local restaurants in Trastevere. On Day 3, explore at your own pace. Book the Borghese Gallery for 9AM, then walk through Villa Borghese park to reach the Spanish Steps. Spend your afternoon shopping on Via del Corso or trying authentic restaurants in the Jewish Ghetto.

Rome to Sorrento Coast
Take a high-speed train to Naples (1.5 hours) and stop at Pompeii on your way to Vico Equense. One visitor shared: "The Pompeii guided upgrade was worth it - there's minimal signage and it's easy to miss the key sites without context." Plan 2-3 hours for Pompeii and wear good walking shoes on the uneven streets.

Amalfi Coast Drive
Visit Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Leave early to beat heavy summer traffic. Pack motion sickness medication if needed for the winding roads. Use Positano's shuttle bus to reach the beach instead of walking uphill in the heat.

Free Day
Choose between exploring more coastal spots or taking a 20-minute ferry to Capri. Book a boat tour to see the coast from the water. The Circumvesuviana train offers easy access to Sorrento from Vico Equense.
- Day 7
Departure
Leave plenty of time for your transfer to Naples Airport - at least 90 minutes. Road accidents can cause delays on the coastal route. The airport express bus from Naples Central Station works well as a backup plan.

- Rome & Amalfi Coast Escapade
A group of 8 of us did the Rome & Amalfi Escapade in April 2024. Omega Tours was easy to book with and communication was great booking the trip, follow-up questions and even while there. We did include for an extra cost transportation from the airport which I would recommend. Our hotel was the Orazio (staff was wonderful, rooms were good with walk-in showers. Not in main attraction area but not too far to walk or taxi for minimal cost). Rome in a Day is just the Colosseum, lunch and Vatican Museums with transportation except to get back to hotel. The tour all depends on which guide you get, our Colosseum guide was wonderful unfortunately our robotic read a script guide for the Vatican was disappointing, especially when we heard from other tours how wonderful their guide was. Train transport to Sorrento was good just wait for area to come up on screen. Pompeii was very interesting, we upgraded for guided tour which I would recommend. Transportation to train station, Pompeii and hotel was flawless. Our hotel was the Domon20 which is very nice. Nice rooms with walk-in showers. Breakfast was outstanding, staff was above and beyond. Rooftop restaurant and bar was very nice wit reasonable prices on drinks and great food. Only downside is location, it is a challenging walk up and down the hill and steps to the town if you have any mobility issues. Amalfi coast drive was also very good, our driver Michael was extremely entertaining even with horrible traffic because of the holiday. Tips-use the train to get to Sorrento from Vico, very reasonable. Station is right downtown, get on and 4th stop is Sorrento.

Touring the coast was good. A little difficult to navigate if you are older or have some difficulty walking. The lemon farm was a little isolated and a bit of a walk to the road to catch a bus if you wanted to explore the area. The lemon farm had beautiful views. The rooms were nice but needs some upgrading and repairs in some areas. The breakfast was disappointing and some of the food was a little cold. We did not know that you needed to purchase wine from the farm. It was a little overpriced. The owners and staff were very nice people and our tour guide Anna was very nice. I think this tour is more for young people.
