Chiang Mai Tours & Trips
Could you imagine Chiang Mai mixing culture with nature in ways that actually get people coming back? Doi Suthep Temple sits up on this hill where the craftsmanship meets genuine spiritual tradition. Elephant sanctuaries around town let you feed them, help out during bath time, just watch these animals doing their thing. Northern Thailand's Chiang Mai combines temple heritage with mountain surroundings across the whole region.

A very comprehensive tour. A lot of thought was pit into this tour. It was a great combination of city and countryside experience. We had a personal guide and driver in each country and this made a very easy and safe experience. Long Pham from Realistic Asia was superb-checking in on is daily to make sure we made it to each and every destination. First time experiencing a 4 country tour and I have to say it was way beyond my expectations! This is due to the well organized tour company Realistic Asia and Long Pham our tour agent!!
The Whispers of Voyage Through Thailand, Vietnam & Siem Reap's Wonders 18 DaysAmazing experience, a lot of hiking but such a wonderful experience with the locals and their delicious foods. An experience I’ll forever cherish and keep in my heart. All tour guides were great and made you feel as you’ve known them for years ! I loved that everything was thoughtfully and strategically planned out. 10/10 experience!
Thailand Elephant Experience: Animal Welfare, Conservation & Jungle TrekkingIf someone had told me two years ago that a flyer on the back of a bathroom stall door would lead to one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, I never would have believed them. My two weeks in Thailand with GIVE Volunteers exceeded every expectation I had. I came into this trip excited but nervous, unsure if I was ready to travel halfway around the world with a group of strangers. I left with lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and a completely new perspective on community, sustainability, and global citizenship. One of the most impactful parts of the trip was working in the village of Mueng Khong, where I had the opportunity to teach English to local children and learn from the community that welcomed us so warmly. The villagers shared their culture, traditions, dances, crafts, and way of life with us, and I will always be grateful for their kindness and generosity. It never felt like we were simply visiting—we were welcomed with open arms. The local guides were truly the heart of this experience. Their stories, resilience, and passion inspired me every day. Learning about the challenges they overcame to pursue education and create opportunities for their communities gave me a deeper appreciation for perseverance, gratitude, and service. Beyond the volunteer work, the experiences were unforgettable. From working on permaculture projects and visiting Pun Pun Sustainability Farm to trekking through the jungle, bamboo rafting, campfires under the stars, and meaningful late-night conversations, every day challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and embrace the present moment. More than anything, this trip reminded me of the importance of human connection. Despite coming from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, I was constantly reminded of how much we all have in common. Thailand gave me memories that will last a lifetime, but more importantly, it gave me perspective. I left with a fuller heart, a broader worldview, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of a global community. Thank you, GIVE Volunteers, the local communities, and everyone who made this experience possible. This was more than a trip—it was a chapter of my life that I will carry with me forever.

“a life changing experience for me and showed me that there is so much this beautiful world has to offer”
Miles, traveled in May
This 8-day tour takes you through northern Thailand's hill tribe villages and natural areas around Chiang Mai. Trek through mountain forests, stay overnight in local Karen and Lahu villages, and raft down the Mae Taeng River. The trip includes visits to Doi Inthanon National Park, Thailand's highest peak, plus time at hot springs and waterfalls. Accommodations mix basic guesthouses with village homestays where you'll sleep in traditional bamboo huts. Your small group (max 12 people, ages 12+) covers about 25-30 km of trekking over multiple days with a local guide who knows the trails and communities. Daily walking ranges from 4-7 hours depending on the route and weather conditions. Several different hill tribe communities welcome overnight stays, particularly Karen villages where families still practice traditional agriculture. The trek goes through Doi Inthanon National Park where you can see the twin royal pagodas and walk to Wachirathan Waterfall. After trekking days, natural hot springs near Mae Malai offer a good place to relax. The rafting section takes about 2-3 hours on bamboo rafts down the Mae Taeng River. Most meals come from local ingredients prepared by village families or your guide during the trek. The tour runs year-round though the cool season (November-February) offers the most comfortable trekking temperatures around 60-75°F/15-24°C.

Best time to visit Chiang Mai
- Summer 2026
Our summer tours through Chiang Mai blend cultural visits with smart scheduling to match the warm season. The 9-day route from Bangkok has become a favorite, kicking off at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market before heading north where temperatures ease up a bit. Our travelers often mention how well the schedule works - active temple visits at Wat Phra Singh in the cooler mornings, followed by afternoon stops at air-conditioned craft workshops along San Kamphaeng Road. Summer is perfect for the elephant sanctuary portion, where you can cool off alongside these gentle animals during mud baths and river swims. The cultural element goes deeper with our hill tribe homestays, where Karen families welcome you for evening cooking classes and shared meals in their villages. We've designed the 5-day express tours around temple visits and elephant encounters with strategic early morning starts, while our extended 12-day journeys include peaceful overnight train rides and also quiet days exploring the unique temples of Chiang Rai.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall in Northern Thailand sets up perfectly for getting deep into the local culture. We've built our 9-12 day tours to give you both city life and rural experiences, starting in Bangkok before heading up to Chiang Mai. You'll explore well-known temples but also find some spiritual spots that most tourists miss. The timing works out nicely - you'll be there for rice harvest season when the Karen village fields turn golden. The tours take you through Doi Inthanon National Park for waterfall hikes and visits with hill tribe communities. We mix up the active bits like white water rafting with local experiences such as cooking classes, evening markets and also long-tail boat rides. Our guests particularly enjoy walking through the quieter temple grounds during these comfortable autumn months.

- Winter 2026 / 2027
Our winter tours across Northern Thailand really shine from November through February when the weather turns cool and clear. We run several 7-11 day trips that blend kayaking on the Mae Taeng River with authentic hill tribe village stays. Many of our guests tell us the overnight Karen village visits are their favorite part - there's nothing quite like sharing stories around a campfire over home-cooked local dishes. You'll walk through teak forests with guides who point out medicinal plants and traditional farming spots along the way. The winter schedule includes quality time at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, which works perfectly in the cooler temps. Our travelers love doing the temple visits and mountain trails early morning this time of year - you can really take your time without the usual heat.

- Spring 2027
Northern Thailand comes alive during spring with tours balancing active pursuits and cultural discoveries over 9-12 days. Starting in Bangkok's bustling streets, groups make their way to Chiang Mai, exploring celebrated temples and tucked-away spiritual sites. The timing syncs perfectly with rice planting season, as Karen villages buzz with traditional farming activities and local life. We take our travelers through Doi Inthanon National Park, where waterfall hikes blend with authentic encounters in hill tribe communities. White water rafting, hands-on cooking classes, evening market wandering, and also peaceful long-tail boat rides create a varied journey. Our guests often mention the comfort of temple visits during these mild spring months. Time at elephant sanctuaries becomes especially memorable, with groups spending unhurried moments feeding and bathing these magnificent creatures in perfect spring weather. Mountain excursions to Doi Suthep Temple showcase sweeping valley panoramas, free from both summer's harsh heat and rainy season's limited visibility.
