What people love about Alps Tours
- Mont Blanc Hiking Highlights
Absolutely impressed with everything this trip had to offer. While we were not able to follow the planned itinerary due to remaining heavy snow accumulation at altitude the trip was still able to provide amazing hikes and mountain views. The meals from Rich and Sarah were on par with any high end restaurant in the area and they were very accommodating to all diets. The chalet was well kept and only a short walk away from downtown Chamonix. I felt that everyone with Exodus was a consummate professional and I would book another tour with them in a heartbeat.
- 4 Days Dolomites Tour - from Milan
Wonderful trip to the Dolomites. Our tour leader Didi was terrific.
- 6-Day The Italian Lakes & Swiss Alps Explorer Small-Group Tour from Milan
We traveled and explored a great deal. I wish our guide had accompanied us o all our experiences rather than exploring on our own. However, our guide was very attentive and assisted us with local purchases and pharmacies.
Travel Alps your way
The Mont Blanc circuit takes you through three countries in 9 days - it's a proper mountain trek where you'll share refuges and hotels with fellow hikers. Our customers tell us they love the social atmosphere in shared spaces, though some wish for more private rooms. Over in the Dolomites, 8-day walks wind past the limestone towers of Tre Cime and the green waters of Lake Braies. The routes are flexible, which helps when mountain weather gets moody. Slovenia's Julian Alps offer excellent hut-to-hut walking; our travelers really like having both digital navigation apps and physical maps to guide them. You'll need decent fitness for these routes - expect daily walks between 11-20km with climbs of 450-800 meters.
The Soca Valley in Slovenia packs multiple sports into one satisfying week. You can raft, canyon and kayak while staying in good hotels, and our customers consistently praise how the guides adapt activities to different skill levels. The Julian Alps mix up the fun with both hiking and cycling - you might find yourself pedaling through Val Cannobina's remote corners or taking on the cyclist-favorite Madonna del Ghisallo climb. Around Lake Bohinj, we combine bikes and boots with visits to local farms where you'll try traditional cheese and bread. Many guests opt for paragliding to see the valleys from above. The real plus here: guides adjust everything to match your experience and support vehicles stay close if needed.
The Alpine cycling routes work for different skill levels, and the luxury option really delivers. You'll pedal through Val Cannobina's wilderness and stop in Santa Maria Maggiore as you connect Lake Maggiore to Lake Como. Strong cyclists can push themselves up to Madonna del Ghisallo, while newer riders appreciate having backup vehicles close by. Over in Slovenia's Julian Alps, the paths from Bled to Kranjska Gora are clearly marked, taking you through Tamar Valley and along the green-blue Soča River. Our riders particularly like having detailed GPS directions and not worrying about their bags - they're moved ahead to your next hotel. The routes mix up good exercise with plenty of scenic stops, and our customers keep telling us how well everything runs.
Explore a wide diversity of coach / bus tours through Alps. We have 38 adventures that vary from 3 days to 14 days. With the greatest number of departures in June, this is also the most popular time of the year.

Best places to start your Alps tour
Zurich works really well as the main starting point for Alps trips, with 13 different tour options kicking off from this easy-to-reach Swiss hub. Milan comes in second with 10 tours, Venice offers 9 different routes, while Chamonix and also Bled provide 8 and 6 starting options respectively. Looking at our booking patterns, most people lock in their Alps trip around 176 days ahead - about 6 months - which really helps during busy summer months when spots fill fast. People trying the Alps for the first time tell us guided tours work best as an introduction, since you get professional trail navigation and cultural insights that would be tough to figure out alone. More experienced visitors suggest taking 10-14 days to really get to know the region, mixing active days with time in traditional mountain towns. If you're watching your budget, May or October trips often cost less while still giving you good conditions for most activities.

The tours usually end in Venice, where our group sizes work perfectly for restaurant bookings and gondola rides through quieter canals. The WhatsApp groups have become a favorite feature, helping everyone stay in touch while giving space to explore independently.
Small Group
198 tours in AlpsSmall Alpine group tours give you both physical challenges and rich cultural experiences. In the Dolomites, you'll walk 11-14km each day over 8 days, stopping at emerald Lake Braies and the striking limestone formations of Tre Cime, while guides point out Alpine wildflowers and share tales from WWI sites along the paths. Our travelers appreciate how the schedule balances structured activities with time to explore independently. The Mont Blanc circuit steps things up a notch, with daily 20km treks and substantial elevation gains as you cross through France, Italy, and Switzerland. Mountain hut stays create natural gathering spots, and our customers often tell us how sharing meals and stories with their group became highlights of their journey. Julian Alps tours blend hiking through Triglav Lakes Valley with visits to local farms, where you'll taste regional cheese and learn traditional bread-making techniques. The self-drive option takes you through the Italian Lakes - you might stop to explore the Borromean Islands from Stresa or take a boat to Bellagio when Lake Como is peaceful and quiet. Our drivers particularly enjoy taking time to discover Bergamo's hilltop old town and also Verona's Roman sites at their own speed. We've included suggestions for local restaurants and viewpoints in the routes, but you can spend extra time wherever catches your eye. You'll get detailed GPS directions, and we handle moving your luggage between our selected hotels, so you can focus on enjoying those spectacular alpine roads and lakeside drives.
Top Alps travel itineraries to fit your plans

Our quick 3-day tours connect Milan's city buzz with Lake Como's calm waters. Day one takes you through Milan's old center - you'll see the Duomo, watch the scene at La Scala opera house and walk the medieval halls of Castello Sforzesco before joining locals for evening aperitivo. On day two, catch the train to Como and hop between ferries to Bellagio and Varenna. Our customers love taking their time over lunch in Bellagio and having drinks later in Varenna's waterfront spots. Your final day lets you either shop Milan's fashion districts or head up to the Duomo's rooftop terraces for city views. Eduardo and Marie, two of our regular guides, get great feedback for knowing their stuff and tailoring tours to what interests you most.

Week-long Alpine tours mix city life with proper outdoor action. Many routes begin in Rome and work north through Pisa, the Italian Riviera and onto Nice and Monaco. Our travelers like how we balance planned activities with free exploration time. The Soca Valley in Slovenia offers real adventures - you'll paddle through rapids, descend rocky gorges and learn kayaking basics on clear mountain rivers. The Julian Alps have excellent hiking trails that wind through Vintgar Gorge and climb Mount Vogel for views over Lake Bohinj. You'll stay in quality hotels in Bled and Kobarid, giving you perfect bases for daily activities.

Our 10-day Swiss and Italian trips are consistently top sellers. Starting from Zurich, you'll take trains to Lucerne then ride a rotating cable car up Mount Titlis for complete Alpine views. You get time to explore both Grindelwald and Interlaken at your own speed in the Bernese Oberland. Then it's on to Lake Como for free time in the waterfront towns, finishing up in Venice with a gondola ride through quiet canals. Our customers really value having scheduled transport mixed with independent exploration, though some mention they'd like extra days around Lake Como and Venice to soak it all in.
Demographics
Our 8-day Dolomites hiking tours work really well for solo travelers - you'll never pay extra for single rooms and the groups naturally come together as friends. Most people like starting in Venice before heading to the quieter mountain areas. Daily walks cover 11-14km with plenty of stops for photos, while guides share interesting details about Alpine flowers and WWI sites along the way. The Mont Blanc circuit offers another solid option with more challenging 15-20km daily hikes, where mountain hut stays create natural social spaces over dinner. Our guides are good at helping solo travelers connect while giving everyone space to do their own thing. For Italian lakes, we run tours from Milan that include boat trips to Bellagio and guided walks in Como's historic center, plus enough free time to explore independently. Our French Riviera weekends based in Nice really click with younger travelers looking to meet people. You'll walk through Monaco's old town and maybe try your luck at Monte Carlo's casino, with an optional evening out exploring Nice's local bars. Another favorite combines Swiss trains with Italian cities - riding the Glacier Express through the Alps before ending up in Barcelona for hands-on tapas cooking with other travelers. Active types enjoy our Julian Alps treks in Slovenia, where you can climb Mount Razor (2,601m) and hike through Triglav Lakes Valley. The mountain huts are simple but social, and younger customers tell us the shared dorms add to the group spirit. Mediterranean coastal tours blend beach time in Cannes with visits to medieval towns and also evening walks through Nice's historic streets.

Best time to visit Alps
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Switzerland's winter rail tours really come into their own from December through March, especially around Mount Titlis. The cable car takes you up to 3,000 meters where you can try sledging and walk through the Ice Grotto - our customers particularly enjoy watching the Alps roll by from the rotating Rotair gondola. The tours linking Zurich and Lucerne work well with side trips to Grindelwald and Interlaken, where the Bernese Oberland shows off its snowy beauty. Many travelers opt for the full Swiss rail experience on the Glacier Express and GoldenPass lines, which offer exceptional views across snow-covered peaks. When conditions allow, you can join guided winter walks on cleared mountain paths.

- Spring 2026
Spring brings a lovely balance to Alpine tours - fewer people around and mountains coming back to life. Nice's flower market is at its best in April and May, and you can take coastal walks before summer heat sets in. Our travelers tell us they love mixing glamorous Monaco with quiet moments in Villefranche sur Mer. The Italian lakes really shine now too - Lake Como's magnolias start blooming and Lake Maggiore offers clear views to snow-topped peaks. Swiss rail journeys this time of year let you catch winter's last appearance up high while spring flowers carpet the valleys.

- Summer 2026
The Alps' summer hiking season delivers excellent walking from June through August. Our Dolomites routes cover the trails around Tre Cime, Lake Braies and also cultural stops in Dobbiaco - the perfect mix of active days and local life. Mont Blanc circuit walks average 20 kilometers daily with serious elevation gain; it's challenging but worth it when alpine meadows burst with flowers. Slovenia's Julian Alps tours combine swimming spots with Triglav National Park hikes, while Swiss itineraries use long summer days for extended exploration around Zermatt and St. Moritz. The Swiss-Italian lakes combinations are popular but book up fast according to our customers.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall is ideal for exploring the Italian lakes without summer crowds but with pleasant temperatures. Our northern tours connect Lake Orta, Maggiore, Como and also Garda - perfect for tasting prosecco in Bellagio and wandering Bergamo's medieval upper town. The French Riviera works beautifully in autumn too; our travelers enjoy Nice's old town walks and coastal boat trips in comfortable weather. The clear mountain views and changing colors make it especially good for photography at every stop. For reliable train tours in Switzerland, Cosmos really delivers on the details - their guides know the routes inside out and their scheduling runs like clockwork according to travelers who've been there. G Adventures brings something special with their CEOs (Chief Experience Officers) who do more than just guide; they create this great group feeling that makes the whole journey more meaningful. If you're looking at the Italian Lakes, TourRadar has built up a solid reputation among their customers, particularly for being quick to respond on WhatsApp when you need them. They handle all the arrangements without any fuss, which means you can focus on enjoying places like Lake Como and Maggiore. For cyclists wanting to explore Italy, Road Bike Tours Italy offers something more personal. Their guide Luca gets mentioned a lot in feedback for knowing exactly when to push the pace and when to ease off, plus he's got this way of adapting routes to match what each group needs. He knows all the quiet roads and local spots that most tourists miss entirely. These companies actually deliver on what they promise - you're getting real value rather than just fancy marketing. What makes them stand out is how they handle the practical stuff while keeping the experience genuine and personal.

What's the best time to explore the Alps?
You'll find amazing experiences year-round but spring's really special with wildflowers everywhere and perfect hiking temps around May and June. Summer's great too especially July and August when you can tackle those high-altitude routes like our Trekking Mont Blanc that takes you through three countries France Italy and Switzerland. Fall's beautiful with all the colors changing though heads up some mountain huts on routes like the Tour de Julian Alps start closing up. Winter transforms everything from November to April and if you're into snow sports you'll love places like Zermatt where our 8 Days Switzerland Tour really comes alive.
What's the best way to find my way around the Alps?
The trails are actually really well marked with great signage and you'll get detailed maps on our self-guided tours like the Tour de Julian Alps trek and Cycle Around Julian Alps Slovenia. GPS and phone apps work great as backup but honestly having a local guide especially for tricky stuff like climbing Mt. Triglav on our Julian Alps tour makes such a difference they know all the secret spots and best routes.
How can I get around in the Alps?
Switzerland's trains are amazing they connect everything smoothly perfect for our Scenic Switzerland by Train tour. When you want those high views cable cars and gondolas are there like heading up to Gornergrat for incredible Matterhorn views or Mt. Titlis on our Swiss & Italian Escapade. Smaller places like along our Slovenia Multiactivity Week in Soca Valley you'll use buses and if you want total freedom rent a car like on our Enchanting Waters self-drive lake tour.
What local culture can I experience in the Alps?
You'll love getting hands-on with traditional culture here watch real cheese being made on our Hiking in the Dolomites tour or see how alpine farming works in Switzerland during our Country Roads tour. The village festivals are incredible too with authentic music dancing and amazing food especially during our SloveniHike Bike & Raft tour you really feel part of the local community.
