  • Days 1-2

    Delhi & Jaipur

    Jaipur

    Start your day at Amber Fort. Take a jeep up instead of an elephant ride. Visit City Palace and Hawa Mahal later in the day when there are fewer tourists.     Jodhpur & Sardargarh

    See Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur before heading to Sardargarh. The castle stay will be one of your trip highlights. "Staying at Sardargarh Fort was incredible. We felt like royalty, though be prepared for occasional power outages common in rural Rajasthan."

    Udaipur

    Visit the City Palace complex and take a boat ride on Lake Pichola in the evening. "Book your lake cruise for just before sunset when the light is magical on the Lake Palace. The morning can be quite hazy."

    Pushkar

    Visit the sacred lake and temples early before the crowds build up. "Pushkar has a magical atmosphere but can get very busy - go early and dress conservatively for temple visits. The evening aarti ceremony is not to be missed."

    Ranthambore National Park

    Plan for two safari drives to increase your chances of seeing tigers. "The afternoon safari yielded better sightings for us. Keep expectations realistic - tiger spotting requires patience and luck."

  • Days 1-2

    Delhi

    Udaipur

    Madurai

    Thekkady

    Take a 4-hour drive to Thekkady in the Cardamom Hills. Tour spice plantations in the morning. Book boat rides on Periyar Lake well in advance for afternoon wildlife spotting.

    Kerala Backwaters & Kochi

    Head to Alleppey for a local homestay. Send your main luggage to Kochi and pack light. Watch the sun set from a country boat on the backwaters. Next day return to Kochi for a Kathakali dance show. Come 30 minutes early to watch the performers apply their makeup.

    Departure from Kochi
