What people love about Amalfi Coast Tours for Seniors
- New Charming Amalfi Coast and Capri Tour - 5 day from Rome
Booked the Charming South- Rome, Capri & Sorrento tour through Tour Radar. I worked with Solito Tours for the details, and the tour and transportation operator was Gartour. That was a bit confusing, as I wasn't sure who to contact with questions once the tour started, but everything worked out anyway. The Rome hotel was typical of an older inner city hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were very small, with a shower that challenges anyone but the tiniest to bend over to pick up the soap! That combined with the wear and tear in the building, make it less than a 4 star hotel imo, but the friendly, helpful service and good breakfast made up for it. The hotel in Sorrento was nice, with a stunning view from the restaurant and outdoor bar. The air-conditioning in one of our rooms wasn't working, but we were promptly moved into another room (which is better than can be said for a 5 star we booked on our own in Dresden a week later!) The breakfast and dinner in Sorrento were also good. Note that the hotel is just outside Sorrento on a hill, but there's a shuttle to and from town that one of my sons used a few times. Check shuttle times, as they take a siesta mid day, and you may have to plan around that (shuttle schedule is provided by the hotel). Transportation by Gartour was on time and comfortable for all four of my 6-foot plus group. Might have helped to know the name of the driver who was collecting us, as we got on a bus at the front of the hotel on the first morning and realized it was a Russian tour just seconds before the driver was about to leave with us on board. That driver didn’t speak English, but thankfully one of the passengers did lol…don’t know where that bus was headed! The tour groups were relatively small (around 15-17 people) and well run, however I would have prefered all tour groups to be composed of people who spoke the same language (see comments about Rome below). There were different tour guides at each area we visited, and all were very good. Filomina?? or maybe Filipina?? in Rome, Anna Rita in Naples and Pompeii and Marco in Capri, Anacapri and The Blue Grotto. My boys particularly liked Marco, who was funny and kept us moving at a good pace. It's tough to share a lot of information about the sites, without keeping the group standing still for too long. Over the days, we noticed that if the guides slowed down, or spent too much time in one place, then the group tended to spread out and wander away. That meant spending time trying to round people up to move on to the next spot, so we were really impressed by Marco's cat herding skills. That said, Marco's group tour was conducted in English only, whereas the other tours included English, Spanish (and Italian). The Italian translation was for the Rome tour only, due to a misunderstanding. The guide determined that the majority of that group spoke English, with 3 Spanish-speaking folks, with limited English. When the guide asked if anyone spoke Italian, a Canadian fellow of Italian descent put his hand up, so the guide must have assumed he didn't speak English. It wasn't until the tour was over that everyone realized she was doing the Italian translation just for him...we all had a good laugh over that! But anyway, the tour seemed slow because we had to wait while she said everything in 3 languages. The only other thing that most of us thought was a bit odd, was that we stopped for an hour at an outlet mall on the way to Naples. This was after our refreshment stop at a place along the highway, and before our tour and lunch stop in Naples. My group would have preferred skipping the shopping mall. Btw, we decided to book a private transfer back to Rome (with Joe Banana Transfers), rather than return with the group. This was so that we could do a tour of Amalfi, Positano and Revello, and to avoid returning to Pompeii for the change of busses on the way to Rome. Turned out to be a great addition to the tour. We had a great time, saw some stunningly beautiful sights, and learned a lot in 5 days. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this tour and Soleto Tours.
- Rome to Amalfi
Hi, I’ve written a review already with suggestions for the things we thought could be improved. I’d like to add though that Agustin, our guide, was happy and a pleasure to deal with. He consistently worked through any issues we had. He was very organised and considerate. We would travel with Agustin again any time! He was lots of fun.
- Campania Region Highlights, Private Tour
WOW....Doesn't accurately describe my Almalfi coast holiday. I traveled alone and was treated like a Prince! I was privately chauffeured by drivers who were professional expert tour guides. I was placed in either a classy clean Porsche, or Mercedes. Yvonne at Tui bent over backwards answering every inquiry within minutes not hours or days. She was attentive and genuinely concerned answering my pestering concerns and comments. I don't think there is a better tour administrator in the world! I highly recommend using Tui for this trip. Not to mention the wonderful excursions like Pompeii, Capri, Almalfi, Limoncello making, and a private tour of Naples including pizza making which were all absolutely amazing and fun. The only criticism is that the accomodations weren't the best, especially in Maoril and Naples. But otherwise decent and comfortable. As a side note Tui, also extended my trip to Rome which included an enriching private tour of the eternal city and a pleasant rapid train ride back to Naples. In conclusion I really enjoyed this trip and I feel like it was worth the cost. Obviously a shout out to tour radar for providing this worthy option. Do this trip, you won't regret it!
