Ever wanted to explore Iceland with plenty of time to spare? Visit Snæfellsnes Peninsula's seals and basalt cliffs on a full loop, with quiet moments watching icebergs float in Jökulsárlón lagoon, active moments hiking glaciers near Vík. You'll mix busy spots with quiet ones nicely; maybe Geysir in the morning, then peaceful whale watching in Eyjafjörður near Akureyri. 7 Days in Iceland, incl. Reykjavik and Akureyri

- Day 1
Reykjavik
- Day 2
Reykjavik to Akureyri
Drive north to Akureyri for 5-6 hours. Spend your afternoon exploring the old town of Iceland's second-largest city. You can take a whale watching tour in Eyjafjörður fjord. Pick the later afternoon slot since morning waters tend to be rougher. If you get seasick easily bring motion sickness medication.

- Day 3
Lake Mývatn Area
Start with Goðafoss waterfall before heading to Lake Mývatn. You'll see the unusual Dimmuborgir lava formations and the active Námaskarð geothermal area. A traveler shared: "The volcanic landscape around Mývatn was unlike anything I'd ever seen - bring good hiking boots as the terrain is quite rough."

- Day 4
East Fjords to Höfn
- Day 5
Jökulsárlón and Skaftafell
Visit Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to see enormous icebergs floating out to sea. A visitor suggested: "Go early to Diamond Beach - the morning light on the ice chunks is incredible. Bring waterproof boots as the black sand gets very wet." You can also take a glacier hike at Skaftafell but book it ahead of time. The day ends with a drive to Vík.

- Day 6
South Coast and Golden Circle
- Day 7
Reykjavik
Spend your last morning in Reykjavik. You might want to try snorkeling at Silfra between tectonic plates. If you do, plan to stay an extra night since return times vary between 2-5 PM. A previous traveler advised: "Book your airport transfer the night before - morning traffic in Reykjavik can be unpredictable."

7 Day Iceland Itinerary, incl. Reykjavik and South Coast
A scenic route covers 27 destinations including three national parks, featuring Thingvellir UNESCO site, Vatnajökull glacier hikes, and Jökulsárlón lagoon. Six different countryside hotels provide bases throughout the 1,332 km journey.

- Day 1
Golden Circle & South Coast
Leave Reykjavik early to reach Thingvellir National Park by 9 AM before the crowds arrive. Visit the continental divide then move on to Geysir where Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes. Keep your distance from the hot spray. After seeing Gullfoss waterfall head to Seljalandsfoss where you can walk behind the falls. Bring a waterproof jacket because you will get wet. Finish at Reynisfjara black sand beach but stay far from the dangerous waves.

- Day 2
Glacier Country
Head east to Skaftafell for glacier hiking. "The glacier hike was challenging but doable - crampons and gear provided made it safe even for beginners." Visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in late afternoon for the best light on the floating icebergs. Stop at Diamond Beach near sunset to see ice chunks scattered across black sand.

- Day 3
East Fjords
Travel through the East Fjords stopping in the artistic village of Djúpivogur. The winding fjord roads take longer than GPS estimates so plan extra time. Spend the night at the Wilderness Center for authentic Icelandic hospitality. "The Wilderness Center was a highlight - watching the Northern Lights from their hot pots was magical."

- Day 4
North Iceland
- Day 5
Whale Watching & Northwest
Go whale watching from Dalvík in the morning. Wear very warm clothes since the wind is intense on the water. Drive the Tröllaskagi peninsula and stop in Siglufjörður to explore its herring industry history. "The whale watching was incredible - we saw multiple humpbacks breaching right next to the boat!"

- Day 6
West Iceland
- Day 7
Snæfellsnes Peninsula
What people love about 7-day Iceland tours
- 7-Day Small Group Journey Around Iceland
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of many of the highlights of the ring road in Iceland! The hotels we stayed in were comfortable. Breakfast was included daily, which was nice to have given the price of eating out in Iceland. Our guide, Snorri, was very knowledgeable about all the sites we visited and was very good at structuring our days to get the most out of them. Would 100% recommend this tour to a friend!
- Best of Iceland
Incredible trip, great CEO who was fun, patient and knowledgeable.
- 7 Day - Complete Iceland
We had the best 6 day tour around Iceland (lucked out most days with ok weather despite the winter and short days) and with Siggi our tour guide who was hands down the best tour guide I’ve ever had. He kept us very well informed every day and throughout so we knew what to expect which was great. We stopped at so many unique and beautiful places and his love and knowledge of his country made it so much more interesting and enjoyable as well as being just a good human who seemed to relate well to everyone in the group. The stories and anecdotes and humour just made it a fun trip as well as seeing and learning so much. There were so many highlights of the trip but my favourite was diamond beach / glacier lagoon and catching the northern lights in the middle of nowhere at the wilderness centre. Truly special. My family and I are now working out when we can come back in the summer months for a totally different experience and yes we will be booking with arctic adventures and hopefully Siggi again.
