I did the Cafe Colombia intrepid tour in November 2024. This was an excellent tour with the brilliant Santiago as our tour leader. The accommodation throughout was really good and the coaches and buses were comfortable. There were some great highlights. Staying at the coffee farm and taking the coffee tour was just an incredible experience. Colombia is a such a beautiful country and each stop on the tour was fascinating, enjoyable and really worthwhile. The pace of the tour was good and while there were a couple of early starts, we had plenty of time for relaxation too. We were lucky to have Santiago as our group leader. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and very helpful. He went out of his way to ensure we had a real understanding of everything. Nothing was too much trouble and he had some great suggestions for restaurants and salsa bars! When the internal airline cancelled one of our internal flights, he handled it really well and got us all on the next flight. I would highly recommend this tour.

Overall the tour was very well thought, organized and scheduled: we never had a delay! It gives a complete idea of the whole country. Every piece of information was always very accurate and given with great punctuality: the domestic flights and the transfers were perfect; ac ouple of guides were excellent (Alejandro in Medellin was absolutely outstanding). The Hotels in Bogotà adn Pereira were excellent (location, room amenities, food quality and variety for breakfast), but the hotel in Medellin was not as good. The last hotel in Cartagena was absolutely decadent and poor, as to location, amenities, food, internet conncetion. unfortunately the worst way to end our trip with a 3 night stay.

What our customers ask about Family Tours & Trips in Colombia
What are the best family-friendly activities and attractions available in Colombia?
Colombia's regions each offer distinct family experiences. Medellín delights children with the open-air Parque Arví and cable car rides above Comuna 13's street art. The Coffee Region draws families to working coffee farms where kids can explore the Cocora Valley's towering wax palms and wander through traditional towns like Salento. Caribbean coast activities center around the Rosario Islands' snorkeling spots while the Amazon region offers chances to spot pink dolphins. Tayrona National Park combines beach time with nature walks. The Hotel Estrella del Monte in Armenia serves as an excellent family base with its kid-friendly setup and central location. As one TourRadar traveler noted "The variety of activities kept both adults and children engaged throughout the trip from wildlife spotting to cultural experiences."
What's the best time of year to visit Colombia with family?
Weather patterns vary across Colombia's regions. The Caribbean city of Cartagena sees its best weather from December to April with temperatures near 85°F. The Coffee Region maintains pleasant conditions year-round between 65-75°F with January and July being particularly favorable. Bogotá's high-altitude location brings consistent spring-like temperatures with the driest period from December to March. A TourRadar traveler advised: "We visited during December and found perfect weather for both city exploration and beach activities in Tayrona National Park."
What transportation options are best for families in Colombia?
Most family tours provide private air-conditioned vehicles with professional drivers. Domestic flights connect major cities like Bogotá Medellín and Cartagena reducing travel times. Local areas like Guatapé and the Coffee Region use comfortable mini-buses while boat transfers serve the Rosario Islands and Amazon regions. The La Bayka eco-lodge in Nuquí coordinates safe family transfers between activities. A TourRadar traveler commented "The private transfers made traveling with children much easier and the vehicles were always clean and spacious enough for our family of five."
What are the educational experiences available for children in Colombia?
Children find learning opportunities throughout Colombia. Bogotá's Gold Museum presents pre-Colombian history through hands-on exhibits while the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá brings geology lessons to life. Coffee farms demonstrate agricultural practices and sustainability concepts. Indigenous communities near Santa Marta share cultural traditions. Medellín's Explora Park engages young minds with interactive science displays. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Our kids learned so much about Colombian culture and history in a fun engaging way."
What type of accommodation is available for families in Colombia?
Family lodging ranges from comfortable 3-star hotels to luxury 5-star properties. Cartagena's Alfiz Hotel Boutique offers family rooms in a prime location. The Coffee Region features properties like Beta Town Hotel in Salento with connecting rooms and children's play areas. Most hotels include pools game rooms and kid-friendly dining. According to a TourRadar review: "The hotels were perfect for families - our room at the BH El Poblado in Medellin was spacious enough for all of us and had great facilities for the kids."
What types of meals are provided on family tours in Colombia?
Tour packages typically cover daily breakfast and select other meals balancing local flavors with familiar options. Places like Hotel Estrella del Monte in Armenia create special children's menus. Families can try fresh seafood in Cartagena's beachfront spots or join farm-to-table experiences in the Coffee Region. Tours accommodate dietary restrictions when notified in advance. A TourRadar traveler shared "The food options were perfect for our family with plenty of choices for both adventurous eaters and more selective children."
