Camping Tours & Trips in Canada
Picture driving through Rocky Mountains, hiking trails in Banff National Park, then exploring Lake Louise and tea house. Hiking and canoe hotel and camping mix delivers Canadian wilderness properly. Raft on Kicking Horse River, canoe down Athabasca River. Mixing hotels and camping means you get backcountry experiences without committing to full camping trips. It's the best of both worlds for people wanting wilderness without going full hardcore.

Had a great time on this trip with a friendly group and a very helpful, happy but professional guide.
Canadian Rockies: National Parks WestboundMICHELLE WAS AN ABSOLUTE SUPERSTAR!! Her enthusiasm and energy was incredible, and her knowledge of the Rockies was unbelievable! Great trip, but it was even better thanks to Michelle!
18 to 35s Real Canadian RockiesI really enjoyed my hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. Our guides Marianne and Catherine did a fantastic job with the execution of the trip. The food, getting us going in the morning and sticking to the plan allowed everyone to have a great time! I highly recommend this hiking itinerary. The only thing that I would address is the location of the camp sites. One camp site had a generator on 24 hours a day and another had a train track very close to our camp site and both sites kept me awake at night. Quite frankly my personal residence that sits in a urban area is MUCH more quiet than anything I experienced while camping.

What our customers ask about Camping Tours & Trips in Canada
When is the best time to go camping in the Canadian Rockies?
The Canadian Rockies offer their best camping conditions from June through September. July and August draw the largest crowds to Banff and Jasper National Parks with comfortable daytime temperatures that work well for outdoor activities. One TourRadar traveler noted: "We had the best weather in July perfect for camping under the stars and hiking the amazing trails around Lake Louise and Moraine Lake." The shoulder months of June and September see fewer visitors but can bring cooler nights and occasional rain showers.
What level of camping experience do I need for a Canada camping tour?
Most guided camping tours in Canada welcome beginners. Tour operators provide all necessary training from setting up tents to basic outdoor skills. The "Classic Calgary-Vancouver Road Trip" starts with a thorough camping orientation. Accommodations range from well-equipped sites like Lake Louise Campground to more basic spots along the Athabasca River. One TourRadar traveler shared: "This was my first time camping and our guide made it very easy teaching us everything from pitching tents to cooking over the campfire. The equipment was top-quality and easy to use."
Which are the best campgrounds to stay at in the Canadian Rockies?
Top campgrounds include Tunnel Mountain in Banff Lake Louise near the famous lake and Whistler Campground in Jasper National Park. These locations offer modern facilities including hot showers and flush toilets while maintaining easy access to hiking trails. For those seeking a more remote experience Marble Canyon Campground in Kootenay National Park stands out. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "The campgrounds were well-equipped with great facilities and amazing views of the surrounding mountains."
What wildlife might you encounter while camping in Canada?
The Canadian Rockies support a rich ecosystem of grizzly bears black bears elk moose mountain goats and bighorn sheep. Wildlife sightings happen regularly especially in Jasper National Park and along the Icefields Parkway. One TourRadar traveler reported: "We saw bears elk and mountain goats right from our campsite in Jasper and the guides were very knowledgeable about wildlife safety protocols."
What kind of meals are included on Canadian camping tours?
Tours typically feature a mix of campfire cooking and picnic lunches often prepared as group activities. G Adventures' Canadian Rockies tour provides 12 breakfasts 11 lunches and 9 dinners with options like fresh pancakes trail sandwiches and grilled salmon. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The food was amazing - our guide showed us how to cook delicious meals over the campfire and we even learned to make traditional bannock bread. Everyone took turns helping with meal prep which made it fun and social."
How physically demanding are camping tours in Canada?
Physical requirements vary between tours but most combine camping with moderate hiking. G Adventures' "Active Canadian Rockies" tour features daily hikes of 2-6 hours with climbs of 400-800 meters including trails like Plain of Six Glaciers. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The hikes were challenging but manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness - our guide was great at adapting the pace for different abilities." Basic camping tasks like tent setup at locations such as Tunnel Mountain Campground require minimal physical effort.
