This was a compact tour, 5 full days with 4 nights in luxurious 5-star hotels. We visited an interesting mix of cultural and religious sites as well as scenic locations. Our guide, Alan Chou, was excellent, very knowledgeable, well organised and most informative. Our group (and bus) were larger than we would have preferred (34) but Alan handled this well. The train ride from Hualien to Yilan was an added bonus.

Best tour companies for Taiwan tours
SuperValue stands out as a top choice for Taiwan tours based on what our travelers tell us. Their attention to detail really shows - from picking quality hotels to planning great meal stops along the way. Guides like Andrew, Hui Liang and especially Iping consistently get mentioned in the positive feedback we receive. If you're looking for something with a more local angle, Intrepid runs solid small-group tours. They're good at getting you into neighborhoods and spots that bigger tours often miss, and their guides tend to be locals who know their stuff. We've had some mixed signals about Delightful Travel lately. While some travelers enjoy their tours, others have reported that what they got didn't quite match what was advertised. There have also been some hiccups with schedules and getting clear answers from their team. If you're considering them, it's worth double-checking the specific details of your tour package beforehand. The most consistent positive feedback comes from SuperValue's customers - they seem to nail the basics while adding those extra touches that make a trip memorable. Their guides know how to handle both the planned activities and those unexpected moments that pop up during any tour.
Best places to start your Taiwan tour
Looking at recent bookings, Taipei is clearly the go-to starting point with 36 of our customer trips kicking off from the capital. A handful of travelers begin in Kaohsiung or Taoyuan instead - just two departures each from these cities. We've found booking about 45 days ahead hits the sweet spot for getting your preferred dates and places to stay. Our customers often mention doing extra homework on hotels pays off, since ratings in some areas don't tell the whole story. Getting around is surprisingly simple - grab a high-speed rail pass and mix it with local transport to reach everything from city centers to quiet mountain spots. The extensive train system and efficient public transit make exploring a breeze. Don't skip the night markets - they consistently top our travelers' highlight lists with amazing local food and also genuine cultural immersion you just can't find anywhere else.
