A short beautiful river with five locks that ensure there's enough water every time of year. Tours available to medieval ruins and Renaissance towns, exploring Portugal's interesting history and the arid microclimate east of the mountains of the Northern Mesata. Mostly through vinyards and olive trees, and you will visit some. The meals were delicious. The boat was smallish (120 guests) and comfortable. Being a small boat, you might see a little culture clash in the one and only main lounge. There will hopefully be dancing to a DJ on the small dance floor. You should join in; but if you don't want to see seniors like me flailing away to the YMCA, Macarena and Sweet Caroline (BAHM BAHM BAAAA) you can sit near the bow in the lounge, or anywhere on the open upper deck (with a sun/rain cover at one end, but it never rains) and where staff will bring you evening drinks. A-Rosa is a German cruise line well known for other river cruises. Our boat was 2/3 German and 1/3 English speakers (Australian, Canadian, British, one Russian couple and one American couple). All tours available in either language. Ages mostly 50 to 80 on our cruise.
Douro Experience 2026The Touro river trip was over all good and free tours were okay. However, I think you should offer a free tour at each stop. I also think the river tour should go from Porto to the spain border for the week instead of turning around and going back to Porto.That would have meant a lot more to me, because I don't like to repeat things on a trip. And I don't mind flying home from a different city than the city I flew into.
