What people love about Hiking & Trekking Tours in Patagonia
- Best of Patagonia 11 Days Tour
This was a very good tour, I loved to see all the glaciers and all hikes. It was a bit cold in some areas but amazing landscapes. All tour guides made this trip very good. You get what they promise and also more than that.
- Group Tour - Everything starts at the end of the World
This was a bit of an odd tour in that I was the only one on it! As such, I was met by a different team every time I changed locations. I usually joined up with others for various activities. Overall that went very well with a couple hiccups. Ushiaia, Punta Arenas, Natales, El Calafate and El Chalten each had their highights. From seeing whales, penguins, seals, dolphins, condors, andus, and guanacos (and trying guanaco stew) to hiking and getting out on the water, there was a lot to see and do. The weather cooperated for the most part so that was helpful. Unfortunately an error made me miss the hike in Torres del Paine but the hike to Laguna de los Tres was well worth the effort (even if I was sore the next day). Eve was my contact throughout the tour and was great - timely, thorough and friendly. If you're thinking of a trip to Patagonia, think no longer - go!

What our customers ask about Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips in Patagonia
What is the best time of year to go hiking in Patagonia?
Patagonia's hiking trails are at their best from October to April. The summer peak falls between December and February with pleasant hiking temperatures between 50-70°F (10-21°C). The trails in Torres del Paine and El Calafate see clear skies and longer daylight hours during these months. Visitors who trek the W Circuit in March often find fewer people on the trails. Keep in mind that Patagonian weather changes quickly especially near Mount Fitz Roy and the Perito Moreno Glacier so packing layers is essential no matter when you visit.
What level of fitness is required for Patagonia hiking tours?
The trails in Patagonia range from gentle day walks to tough multi-day expeditions. On the W Trek in Torres del Paine hikers walk 6-8 hours each day and climb up to 2870 ft (875m). The Mount Fitz Roy area demands longer daily distances of 12-17 miles. Most visitors should be comfortable walking 4-6 hours with a daypack. Previous hiking experience helps particularly for challenging sections like the French Valley or Las Torres paths. Tour operators suggest training with uphill walks before tackling these Patagonian trails.
What are the most iconic hiking trails in Patagonia?
Patagonia's signature paths include the W Trek in Torres del Paine which covers 60-80km over 4-5 days. The Laguna de los Tres trail leads to Mount Fitz Roy taking 19km for a round trip. The Huemul Circuit spans 60km across 4 days of hiking. The French Valley and Grey Glacier routes show off classic Patagonian landscapes with snow-capped peaks towering over pristine valleys.
How challenging is the famous W Trek in Torres del Paine?
The W Trek tests hikers over 50 miles (80 km) during 4-5 days of walking. Each day covers 7-12 miles (11-20 km) with notable climbs like the Las Torres trail's 2870 ft (875m) ascent. The paths mix forest walks with rocky sections requiring solid footwear and endurance. The Base Torres climb stands out as particularly demanding but rewards hikers with close-up views of the park's signature granite peaks.
What wildlife might I encounter while hiking in Patagonia?
The trails of Patagonia cross paths with guanacos (wild llamas) Andean condors flamingos and sometimes pumas. Torres del Paine National Park sees regular visits from grey foxes and many bird species. The Beagle Channel near Ushuaia offers chances to spot penguins and sea lions. Wildlife watching works best during quiet morning walks or as the sun sets. Many hikers report seeing condors gliding above the French Valley and guanacos grazing near the campsites.
How far in advance should I book a Patagonia hiking tour?
Smart planning for Patagonia means booking 6-12 months before your trip especially for summer visits from December to February. The refugios (mountain shelters) in Torres del Paine fill quickly. Booking data shows successful hikers reserve the O Circuit trek 438 days ahead while those taking longer Patagonia hiking packages book 514 days in advance.
