An excellent tour, well constructed with interesting activities. Great tour guide & driver, Ollie, who suggested varied options for dinners and always made sure we were provisioned for sunsets viewing. There are quite long distances, but breaks every two hours or so made it very comfortable. Highlights were the Pinnacles, Kalbarri, Monkey Mia and snorkelling at Coral Bay. Almost all of our small group of 7 opted for the swim with whale sharks at Ningaloo - truly a bucket list item. The roads are good, and the WA parks infrastructure is excellent. Good value tour with 3-4 star comfortable accomodations (though we wouldn’t have minded paying a bit more for 4 star accom at Ningaloo)

The trip was amazing, the itinerary excellent and the accommodation clean and comfortable enough. The best part of the trip was our tour guide, Kimberley. She is an excellent professional and a better person. She has a deep knowledge of the area that share with the group with enthusiasm and fun. The group was amazing, we enjoyed with each other and everyone was ready to book another adventure with Kimberley in the future.

Best time to visit Australia West Coast
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter brings out the best in Western Australia's coastal routes from May through September, when temperatures sit nicely at 18-25°C. The 7-day Perth to Exmouth trips really work well this time of year - even the light rain adds something special to those red Kalbarri gorge views. You'll find crystal-clear water at Ningaloo Reef, perfect for spotting whale sharks and manta rays gliding by. One of our most-booked options lets you mix it up between camping under star-filled skies and proper hotel stays. There's also a small-group coastal route where the guides cook proper dinners and sometimes surprise everyone with morning pancakes. The mild winter weather makes those longer walks through Nature's Window and Z-Bend Gorge much more enjoyable.

- Spring 2026
Spring fills Western Australia's coast with wildflowers and just-right temperatures. Our guides know exactly where to find the best blooms in Kalbarri National Park, and they time the visits perfectly. You might spend your morning photographing flowers in the gorges and then cool off snorkeling with marine life at Coral Bay - our travelers really like that mix. The Perth to Exmouth routes work particularly well now since you can still catch whale sharks before they move on, plus the hiking weather is spot-on. Some tours make special stops at Shell Beach and Pink Lake when the spring light makes them look their finest.

- Summer 2026
Summer tours along the coast focus on water activities and early walks. The family-friendly Kimberley routes include plenty of swimming at spots like Galvans Gorge and Manning Falls - those clear pools feel amazing on warm days. Our coastal tours spend lots of time at Turquoise Bay and Coral Bay, where you can snorkel straight off the beach. The guides schedule hikes for early morning, leaving afternoons free for dips in natural pools or quiet time at hidden beaches. Many tours add boat trips to see marine life and evening cruises when the water's typically calm and clear.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Looking at the tours along Australia's west coast, Autopia Tours has built up quite a following among our travelers - especially on that Perth to Exmouth route. Their guides Linda, Wokka and Jason get mentioned often in the feedback for really knowing their stuff and sharing interesting details about the landscapes, wildlife and local culture along the way. The price point works out well for what you get - you'll see everything from coastal cliffs to inland gorges, plus chances to spot whales, reef fish and kangaroos depending on the season. Just keep in mind you're covering serious distance out there, so there will be some longer days on the road. A few experienced travelers suggest spending the extra money on a private room upgrade for better rest between driving days. Adventure Tours runs similar trips but the feedback isn't as consistent. We've had mixed reports about where you stay, what you eat and how engaged some of their guides are with the group. When you compare the two operators side by side, Autopia Tours tends to deliver a more reliable experience. If you're keen to explore Western Australia properly with someone who knows all the good spots, hidden beaches and local history, Autopia's guides really make the difference. They've got the knowledge to help you understand what you're seeing and the enthusiasm to make those long travel days more interesting.

What's the best way to experience Western Australia's natural wonders beyond the cities?
You'll find some incredible natural treasures out there honestly. Karijini National Park's gorges are a must-see they're an amazing 2.5 billion years old and Ningaloo Reef has this stunning collection of 250 different coral species. Cape Range's limestone canyons are pretty spectacular too. You've got options to explore - join an Autopia Tours guide take on the Gibb River Road in your own 4WD or stay at places like Mt Barnett Cattle Station. If you're keen on marine life time your visit between March and September for whale sharks at Ningaloo or August to October for humpbacks. Need a place to stay? The RAC Monkey Mia Resort and Potshot Hotel Exmouth are perfect bases for wildlife watching.
What are some hidden gem routes along WA's coast?
Look beyond the usual spots and you'll discover some amazing drives. The Indian Ocean Drive from Perth to Geraldton takes you past Hutt Lagoon's incredible pink waters and through Cervantes where rock lobster is king. Head up the Northwest Coastal Highway and you'll find Eighty Mile Beach stretching an amazing 220km and some working pearl farms on the Dampier Peninsula. The Coral Coast Highway between Geraldton and Exmouth is another great option you can stop at the historic Billabong Roadhouse from 1962 and check out Carnarvon's tropical fruit farms and space history.
Which spots in WA are less visited but really special?
You've got to see the stromatolites at Hamelin Pool they're literally living fossils from 3 billion years ago right in Shark Bay's World Heritage area. The Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park is pretty mind-blowing thousands of limestone formations just rising up from golden sand. New Norcia's really unique too it's Australia's only monastic town with beautiful Spanish colonial buildings. Want amazing views without the crowds? Head to Kalbarri's Z-Bend Gorge and Nature's Window for spectacular sunrises.
What's the best way to get around Western Australia?
Since we're talking huge distances like Perth to Exmouth being 1200km you've basically got two main choices: join a guided coach tour or drive yourself. Companies like Autopia Tours run 6-7 day trips with everything included which makes things easy. If you're driving yourself just plan your fuel stops carefully around places like Billabong and Overlander roadhouses. Perth and Broome have decent public transport and day tours but if you're hitting remote areas like the Gibb River Road you'll definitely need a 4WD.
What unique experiences can I have on a WA tour?
There's some really special stuff you can do here. The Didgeridoo Dreaming night tour at Monkey Mia is amazing where Nhanda and Malgana guides share their fishing knowledge and Dreamtime stories. You can visit Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm to learn about pearl grading and the area's maritime history. Love adventure? Try sandboarding the massive Lancelin dunes snorkel with reef sharks at Coral Bay's shark nursery or join the seasonal whale shark swims at Ningaloo between March and September.
